Mélanie le définit comme la curiosité : l’envie de tourner les pages d’un livre, ce qui implique de poser des questions auxquelles le lecteur ou lectrice souhaite des réponses… et donc en donner avec un juste dosage. 
Estelle prend une approche beaucoup plus technique : l’enchaînement causal dans le scénario, les motivations et enjeux des personnages, le suspense et sa maîtrise. Mais elle pose une question plus vaste : dans quel type de récit opère-t-on, et quel intérêt veut-on susciter ? 
Lionel aborde enfin l’illusion de liberté romanesque dans le cadre des personnages, en faisant la différence entre libre-arbitre et agentivité, et argue que seul le second est porteur d’enjeux et de conséquences scénaristiques.
