Goodbye, Sunshine

 In a darker time, a world away, the Elven village of Myzar is under constant attack from neighboring men. After many a year of conflict, the village falls upon the fateful decision to call on an ancient goddess: the Fire Witch. To summon the Fire Witch requires a terrible price. One must rip an unwilling mother from their child and sacrifice her upon a burning pyre. 

     In the blackness of a new moon, the villagers take Emúr, a mother left alone to care for her young child after the death, in battle, of her partner, from her bed. She stands in stoic silence as they lash her to the sacrificial pyre, for she knows the truth of calling upon such magic. 

    As the sun rises and the smoke clears, in her place stands the blazing crimson of the dreadfully powerful Fire Witch! The village rejoices for they can now destroy their enemy and bring peace to their village. But fire can not be controlled. Emúr exacts her own steep toll and razes both villages to the ground in a fury of flames and ash. 

     Darkness again approaches as the sun meets the horizon and all that is left is smoldering ruins, the acrid stench of burnt flesh, and the soft cries of a woman taken from her only living blood. No other sounds permeate the air, not the call of an owl or the rustle of the now-fallen trees, for violence begets violence and Hell hath no fury like a Mother scorned. 

Summoning The Fire Witch

At the end of our days awaits the most patient of hosts. The Time Keeper, an ageless vampire, tallies and retells the story of our life as we traverse the unknown to the Afterlife. Did we rush through life, taking each turn and twist for granted? Did we spend each moment immersed in the beauty and mystery that is life? Only the Time Keeper knows yet they pass no judgement upon us. It is only we, the dearly departed, that lay claim to our fates. 

Part I: Racing Forward speeds forth into that mysterious and everlong battle of the day-to-day, spinning the fast-paced, and often treacherous, wheels of our lives. How will it end? Will we find comfort in the retelling of our choices?
