The 50th release on Sol Selectas Records comes from the label founder himself - Sabo, and features the musical talents of a mother & her son, as represented by the title Earth & Sun. Twenty year old Elijah Sage plays the ancient ravanhatta string instrument on the opening track "Young Wisdom", weaving an emotional mid tempo blanket to lie under the Sun.  "Obatala" is the story of the Sky Father Orisha, who creates all human bodies according to Yoruban mythology. The deep tribal groove is complemented by the vocals of Elijah's mother Nikila Badua, representing the roots of the Earth. 

Nicola Cruz from Ecuador, delivers a stellar remix of "Obatala"  taking us high into the Andes Mountains, where organic percussion and live marimbas flow like wind through the valleys. Blond:ish transforms "Young Wisdom" into a psychedelic tech house trip, adding infectious build ups and mind-altering  drums for peak time energy. And lastly Paris' Birds of Mind take us on a voyage into deep bliss with their ethereal reinterpretation of "Young Wisdom". 
The artwork by Helia Jamali, represents the loving balance between the Earth & Sun, and the energy they have created, makes the puppy flower dance in the desert wind.

Umeko Ando (1932-2004) was a folk singer from Japan. She is a representative of the Ainu culture on the Hokkaido Island in the north of Japan.

Iuta Upopo was released on her last CD “Upopo Sanke” in 2003, produced by Oki Kano (Oki Dub Ainu Band). “Upopo” is the name of a particular singing style which involves repetition, while “Iuta” simply means song. Umeko Ando performs this minimalistic vocal in a brittle, emotional manner which is framed by a slow, percussive pulse and Oki’s Tonkori patterns (the Tonkori is a string instrument of the Ainu).

When Pingipung’s Andi Otto toured Japan in 2017, he came across this enchanting, folkloristic and danceable song in a DJ set of a friend. This single is part of Pingipung’s ongoing Concentrical Series of 7inches. On the A-Side you can hear Iuta Upopo on vinyl for the first time. On the flip there's a brillant remix by M.RUX.

Fuan e Kitai - Music from far east, via Kuroshio Current, to fictional South America 

In Japanese “Fuan” means impatience and “Kitai” anticipation, reflecting Dj Shhhhh’s emotional state when he made this mix just before going for the first time to Brasil &amp; South America. It meant a lot to him since he had been researching music from this continent for more than 15 years. Noticing that the new generation brought up with electronic music was completely disconnected from Folk music he took on this mission to create a bridge between these different universes. He found an echo in the current south american music scene and since then has been releasing and bringing to Japan these new artists. For him in spite of looking opposite folk and electronic music share the same elements settled in traditional knowledge of how music makes the human nature vibrate.
