Manuel Castaneda a.k.a. Rigopolar is now based in Miami. He mixes up Italo, disco, techno and wave music on labels like Duro, Aeon, Nazca and Tom Tom Disco. He is a mainstay of the dark disco scene and always takes dance floors on a trip through space and time with his rough-edged but majestically melodic sounds. His new label will be a place for his most comprehensive musical statements yet, and the first offering is an instant classic of the genre.
 
Opener 'Purple Drive' is an expansive astral disco cut with sweeping guitar riffs and dazzling disco-fried synth work. It's chuggy and packed with stylish reverb and a well-treated vocal. Next is the twinkling 'Inversus Totalis,' which melts swaggering and dubbed out drums with twitchy synths into a sleek and far-sighted dance floor destroyer in the mold of ALFOS. The brilliant 'Melting Moon' is another dark disco gem that is quick to lock you in with its tinny percussion and rugged arps. They're backed with coarse hits and a pulsing bassline that forever forges forwards through the stars. 'Saturnia' closes down with mind-melting synth loops and prickly hits. The drums are firmly rooted, while splashy cymbals and vocoder vocals add that deep space feel.
 
A second EP is already in the works for later in the year and is sure to confirm this is an essential new label for dark disco heads.

The French-Caribbean pop band La Compagnie Créole’s music has been making people dance since the 70’s; and their timeless 1987 hit ‘A.I.E’ still sits among MoBlack Records’ all-time favorites. Driving our time travel to 80’s French West Indies and paying proper homage to the buoyant classic are HaZa and MoBlack himself. First up, DJ/producer HaZa injects his penchant for deep, melodic voyages into his reinterpretation of ‘A.I.E’. Infusing dynamic symphonies into the original’s seductive Caribbean rhythms, HaZa’s remix is a glorious harmony of lush organic sounds and uplifting electronic nuances.  MoBlack completes the EP with a breathtaking remix that keeps the original’s essence intact while elevating to new dimensions. Setting things off with full-bodied drum patterns, this atmospheric moodsetter journeys through tender melodic climaxes and visionary soundscapes. An unwinding experience for body and mind.

Australia-based but born out of the Parisian house music scene, Lunar Disco is DJ and composer Nicolas Blistene and his singer-songwriter partner Kate Elsworth. 

Together they have a unique mix of live vocals and richly textured electronic sounds that are deep, sensual and playful. Kate has worked with Sonny Fodera and Deep Dish on labels such as Defected, Mobilee, and Cafe Mambo, while Nicolas runs the French Kitchen label and has thrown events worldwide.

The excellent 'Terrible Happiness' proves that with seven minutes of uplifting retro-future disco brilliance - the drums are leggy and loose, the chords reach skywards, and Kate's steamy vocals finish the cosmic trip off in emotional fashion. 

A Club Mix layers in darker bass that powers things onward even more, but the irresistible vocal remains in place next to expansive chords that take you ever higher.

Remixer Gumm is a mainstay on the Melbourne scene who has gone from renegade party promoter to beloved festival headliner. He co-founded the city's Darklove brand and mixes up nu-wave, indie and disco. Here he gets dark, with slap-funk drums and prying synths bringing romance and late-night mischief to the original. The vocal becomes more haunting and makes this is very different but equally brilliant version.

This is another faultless package from Lunar Disco.
