Ricardo Ruben has been bad, you have been bad, and do you know Sven Vath?  So.... can't you dance? With a rhythm as slow as a dopey toucan flying towards the mountain, but with the aplomb of a gunman preparing to shoot in a duel, a bass drum that pushes hard, a percussion that carries a lilting, and bucking groovy step, a piano chord that sticks vehemently and with determination, keyboard notes falling here and there like drops of rain, and bass notes left hanging in suspense after zigzagging sounds. Everything seems very, very serious, then a pitched down voice brings us to the question, again asking, perhaps ironically: “So can you dance? ... Coz Aibinbad..?”

Stefano Ritteri has spread his talents far and wide across the music industry over the past two decades. Including appearances under his previous moniker Solo, he has had residencies at Fabric and Rinse FM, released music on Get Physical, Dirtybird and countless other labels, and even composed music for TV and advertisements, most notably the English Premier League. Now the Londoner via Rome is dipping into the label game with his new label Viaggio Recordings alongside his close friend Musta.

The label is simply another form of expression for Stefano as he plans to release more than just music but also art, instruments and even rolling papers. The first release is logically a brand new EP from the man himself. Mutana is an EP set for release on 12” vinyl on December 7th and features three tracks which represent not only Stefano’s personality, but also the changes he has made in his production techniques over the past few years. They seem to perfectly represent his eclectic style of mixing as well. He has perfected a seamless blend of house, techno, and world rhythms over these three tracks nearly as dexterously as he does in clubs around the world on a weekly basis.

The title track is a testament to these diversified tastes as it combines live percussion with sampled rhythms and analogue synths. “Mutanda” has everything from swirling LFO’s to fuzzed out guitars. The drums build and build as layer upon layer is added to the hectic mix. It all accelerates to a drop which sees vocal samples taking the fore, floating above the compressed madness before exploding back into the gritty hysteria of before. More samples are introduced and teased throughout as short dips and tricks keep the track chugging along to nearly six and a half minutes.

DSB’s first release consists of a diskomiks by Prins Thomas and two house tracks by Perdu. The Diskomiks has already reached a legendary status in Belgium since it’s free promotional download for Petrol’s summer club in 2013. Getting regular plays by more than a handful of respected DJ’s in the Belgian scene. Even Norse top-producer and DJ, Todd Terje, gave it a spin while closing the Castello at Pukkelpop 2018. It is a track that gives you the summer jitters, and makes you reminisce about those lovely days at the beach.

The B side is completed by promising Amsterdam producer Perdu. First track ‘Tribal Voices’ is a South African bubblegum edit from 1985 track ‘Nhamba Dance’ by ‘The Winners’. The vocals are re-recorded by original producer Selwyn Shandell and authentic African singers. The track has very strong percussive elements, a groovy bassline that makes you want to dance and funky synth lines to complete the whole thing. Second track ‘Yesterday’s Tomorrow’ is one to be played in the clubs. The track starts with a stomping beat and gradually opens up to an oasis of sounds. While adding layer after layer you get absorbed in the atmosphere like you’re in the jungle.

Clandestino’s own Nick J. Smith breaks ranks for a solo outing on the label, setting hearts aflutter with three balmy kaleidoscopic cuts. Each track is forged in ideas from the classic dream house era between 1988-’91; evoking the halcyon period’s sense of hope and positivity yet presented in a modern lustre for today’s dance-floors.

‘You Make Me Feel’ has tight crisp drums to underpin heavenly keys, woozy pads and choral voice stabs. Breese fleshes out the classic house feels even further with his Frankie Knuckles style emotive piano-led groove. ‘Gets Me High’ takes a deeper path, with its infectious bell melodies and sparkling chords driving the spirit along. Clandestino jack the energy levels with their edgier, acid take. Racing drums set out a moodier atmosphere, the tension swelling and eventually popping as the originals stuttering keys are finally brought in.  ‘Can’t Stop’ closes out in a dreamy style; swirling pads and cool organ touches combine with a seductive vocal to trance you out. 
This is a package that chimes with longer days and warmers nights, as the darkness begins to fade and pastel coloured skies draw near.

Next up on Nightcolours is La Mano, the alias of UK based producer Carlo Bragagnini. With previous releases on the likes of Secret Factory & Through Gods Own Eyes, he's also caught the attention of Bicep and recorded a mix for their podcast series. With a sound forged on melody and emotion with influence from Italo-Disco right through to Progressive, his productions have been supported by DJs such as Ame, Man Power, Jennifer Cardini, Henry Saiz and many more. Solo Dancer is a melodic progressive gem, swirling arps, lush textured pads and nagging riffs piledrive the track forward to its delicious climax. Taking on remix duties is Dark Disco maestro Man2.0 who delivers a thumping, throbbing beast of a rework modelled around ever ascending melodies and snapping, snarling snare drums.
