Taking things back, Royalston explores a more traditional landscape in the form of ‘Strobes’. With customarily blissful vocals, this track is vintage Med School. The duo from Austria have seen support from some of the biggest names in drum & bass with singles like ‘Hollow’, ‘Stoned Love’, and ‘Electric Boogie’ being picked up by Sub Focus, Culture Shock, DJ Marky, and MistaJam among others. Following the release of their highly sought-after remix of Camo & Krooked’s ‘Honesty’, their VIP edit of the iconic ‘Shag’, and recent singles ‘Fuse/Shake’, the duo are once again setting their sights on success with their latest label release.

We're not even close to recovering from the sonic assault of Technique's twentieth-anniversary 'Remix LP' but the follow-up strike is already upon us. We've seen classics from the back cat get the treatment from the likes of A.M.C, Bladerunner, Marky and Digital, but now it's all about looking to the future. With ten brand new killer tunes, the Technique Recordings gang are already setting a benchmark for 2020.

And, judging by this album, the picture of what's to come is multi-hued and multi-faceted.

The break-focused future-jungle tear-out of Drumsound & Bassline Smith's 'Ruffneck Soldier' – already a tried and tested deejay weapon on dub – sits alongside the cinematic expanse of L Plus's 'The Planet' and the controlled aggression of NC-17 and Exile's 'War'.

As if to emphasise the variety, No Concept's Kerizma-laced 'Electrify' rubs shoulders with Tantrum Desire and Youngman's 'Precision', offering us a horror-influenced stomper and a soul-meets-staccato dancefloor workout respectively. Following what has already been a hugely successful year for the mysterious producer, Giganti returns to home label Viper with yet another quality record to add to his increasingly impressive resume with ‘The Kraken’. Although little is known about the producer, recent releases like ‘Olympa’, ‘Danger Mouse’, ‘MAD’ featured on Bassrush 4.0, plus remixes for Beat Assassins’ ‘Home Grown’ and Chris Martin & Kanye’s ‘Homecoming’, the one thing that is certain is that Giganti has got a knack for producing dancefloor bangers, earning support from the scene’s most praised DJs and tastemakers already.
‘The Kraken’ opens on an instantly suspenseful note, with elements of a haunted lullaby building a sense of dread and anticipation. Ominous and foreboding, an eerie vocal paves the way for a healthy dose of Giganti’s signature growling bass, resounding out the speakers with criminal intent. Loud, bold, and unapologetic, the unique sound Giganti is forging for himself is evident throughout.
With such an impressive hotstreak in 2020 already, Giganti has turned more than a few heads in the scene, and with good reason.
