📝 Description
"Lingering Light in Winter’s Embrace" is a chamber composition for eight instruments, deeply rooted in the expressive tradition of the Russian musical school, profoundly inspired by the legacies of Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky and Georgy Sviridov. The piece seeks to capture the ephemeral beauty of memory, weaving an atmosphere of tender melancholy and quiet contemplation, as if illuminated by the delicate glow of a winter landscape.

At its heart lies the theme of nostalgia — a longing for moments lost, expressed through a lyrical dialogue between the strings (first and second violins, viola, cello, and double bass) and the poignant timbre of the winds (flute, oboe, and clarinet). The strings evoke heartfelt emotions, whispering tales of cherished recollections, while the winds add a breath of airy lightness and a subtle shimmer of hope. The double bass provides a resonant foundation, grounding the composition in the timeless embrace of the natural world.

This work transcends a specific narrative, instead inviting listeners on an emotional journey — a meditation on the fleeting nature of time, the enduring power of the human spirit, and the universal search for harmony. "Lingering Light in Winter’s Embrace" is a sonic painting, a tapestry of sound designed to stir the soul and awaken the imagination. From the heartfelt original composition À Milli by Anastasiya Ihnatovich, included in our Piano Whispers 01 compilation with arrangements by Bruno Sanfilippo, we now present À Milli Reworked, delicately reinvented with real strings by composer Felipe Lima. The piece now carries a cinematic, melancholic beauty. Each note unfolds with grace, inviting the listener on a peaceful and pastoral journey. With this release, we warmly welcome two new talents to the ad21 family: Anastasiya Ihnatovich, a neoclassical pianist from Minsk, Belarus, whose music speaks with honesty and emotion. Felipe Lima, a Brazilian composer focused on film, series, and visual storytelling, bringing deep sensitivity and atmosphere. A luminous collaboration that celebrates subtlety, emotion, and the power of reinterpretation. ad21

This marks the third collaboration between myself and my good friend across the Atlantic, the talented US-based guitarist @jonathan_beckenstein. For this track, we decided to strip things back and focus purely on the guitar — no vocals, no production tricks, just two instruments speaking to one another across time zones and continents.

It’s a transatlantic dialogue in sound: layered, responsive, and full of nuance. We’ve aimed to capture something raw and intimate — moments of quiet tension, moments of lift — built from the simple joy of playing.

We hope you enjoy what we’ve crafted together. It’s always a pleasure to create with Jonathan, and this one feels especially close to the heart.

Musical notes: This is a variation on John Barry's theme for the 1971 TV show The Persuaders!. It is a challenge that my colleague and great composer Serge Smulders gave me. I could not resist as that TV show was one of my favourite those years. However, may I say that John Barry synthesized version of that time is now a bit outdated. Nevertheless, a classic is a classic hence revisiting it.

August 2025 Currently on residency in Italy ! 
These are 3 short sketches using field recordings captured around Montegiovi, Tuscany. With these little works I am experimenting freely with what can be produced from each days sounds -  manipulating them and stiching them back together with the aim of producing a long format work at the end of the residency. 
I am truly thankful for this opportunity that has been provided for me by the Salamanca Arts Centre in Tasmania and Cultivate Projects/La Baldi residency in Italy and The USA. 
And of course the wonderful people of Montegiovi !
