Benjamin Edward Meara "Ben" Stiller (born November 30, 1965) is an American actor, comedian, and filmmaker. He is the son of veteran comedians and actors Jerry Stiller and Anne Meara.

After beginning his acting career with a play, Stiller wrote several mockumentaries, and was offered his own show entitled The Ben Stiller Show, which he produced and hosted for its 13-episode run. Having previously acted in television, he began acting in films; he made his directorial debut with Reality Bites. Throughout his career he has written, starred in, directed, or produced more than 50 films, including The Secret Life of Walter Mitty, Zoolander, The Cable Guy, There's Something About Mary, the Meet the Parents trilogy, DodgeBall, Tropic Thunder, the Madagascar series, and the Night at the Museum trilogy. In addition, he has had multiple cameos in music videos, television shows, and films.

Stiller is a member of a group of comedic actors colloquially known as the Frat Pack. His films have grossed more than $2.6 billion in Canada and the United States, with an average of $79 million per film. Throughout his career, he has received multiple awards and honors, including an Emmy Award, multiple MTV Movie Awards and a Teen Choice Award.

In 1964, I was a little girl sitting on the linoleum floor of my mother's house in Milwaukee, watching Anne Bancroft present the Oscar for best actor at the 36th Academy Awards. She opened the envelope and said five words that literally made history: “The winner is Sidney Poitier.” Up to the stage came the most elegant man I had ever seen. I remember his tie was white and, of course, his skin was black. And I'd never seen a black man being celebrated like that. 

And I have tried many, many, many times to explain what a moment like that means to a little girl, a kid watching from the cheap seats, as my mom came through the door bone-tired from cleaning other people's houses. But all I could do is quote and say that the explanation in Sidney's performance in “Lilies of the Field”: Amen, amen. Amen, amen.

In 1982, Sidney received the Cecil B. DeMille Award right here at the Golden Globes, and it is not lost on me that at this moment there are some little girls watching as I become the first black woman to be given the same award. It is an honor and it is a privilege to share the evening with all of them and also with the incredible men and women who've inspired me, who've challenged me, who've sustained me and made my journey to this stage possible: Dennis Swanson, who took a chance on me for “A.M. Chicago,” Quincy Jones, who saw me on that show and said to Steven Spielberg, “Yes, she is Sofia in 'The Color Purple,’” Gayle [King], who has been the definition of what a friend is, and Stedman [Graham], who has been my rock, just a few to name.

I'd like to thank the Hollywood Foreign Press Assn., because we all know that the press is under siege these days. But we also know that it is the insatiable dedication and the absolute truth that keeps us from turning a blind eye to corruption and injustice, to tyrants and victims and secrets and lies. I want to say that I value the press more than ever before as we try to navigate these complicated times, which brings me to this: What I know for sure is that speaking your truth is the most powerful tool we all have. And I'm especially proud and inspired by all the women who have felt strong enough and empowered enough to speak up and share their personal stories. 

And when that new day finally dawns, it will be because of a lot of magnificent women, many of whom are right here in this room tonight. And some pretty phenomenal men, fighting hard to make sure that they become the leaders who take us to the time when nobody ever has to say “Me too” again. Thank you.

Funny thing about motivation.
It’s not a week long seminar 
at some beachside resort and spa. 
Ice breakers with nice strangers. 
Distrustful trust falls. 
Seven easy, twelve easy, 
twenty-five easy steps and that’s all. 
Some people need that. 
A format, a road map. 
They’re so lost about where they wanna go, 
they don’t even know where they’re at. 
And it works. 
But once you dig yourself out of that hole, 
it’s not like the film ends and the credits roll, it’s- 
The funny thing about motivation is it’s not a party. 
It’s not a drum beat in your chest 
echoing through your body. 
Each day isn’t a dragon to slay, 
a battle for your army. 
Temporary life mottos 
scribbled in permanent Sharpie. 
Some people need those. 
Credos. Words to live by. 
Metaphors and allegories to fit yourself inside. 
And it works. 
But take away the glitz and the guts 
and let that luster get a little rust... 
The funny thing about motivation is… 
is that it’s disappointing. 
All it really boils down to 
is strengthening your inner voice 
and that’s not loud, that’s not bright, 
that’s not an interesting story. 
Books don’t get written about 
small personal victories 
because that would be boring. 
But small personal victories 
are what’s truly human. 
Funny thing about motivation is that 
it’s not a crowd chanting over moving music. 
It’s a single pat on your back saying, 
“You can do this.”

It’s muted.
It’s quiet. 
Sometimes it’s silent.

Funny thing about procrastination. 
Sometimes it's not 'cause you're lazy. 
Snoozin' your alarm so you can stay asleep 
every day of the week until the due date's reached. 
Stayed up all night to turn it in late, incomplete. 
Some people do that. 
Who can't? 
Chapter 2 Math 
sounds so much sadder than 
afternoon nap. 
So you don't work. 
But it’s not just putting off for later 
so you can watch some vlogger’s day first. 
I heard somebody 
who studied decision making 
for years get asked, 
“Have you gotten better at 
making decisions in your own life?” 
He said no. 
Right? 
Like if he was researching this whole time, 
how does he not know by now? 
But the funny thing is
being smarter doesn’t make you more productive. 
You just get better at justifying your poor judgement. 
More convincing excuses. 
More lenient sentences. 
Better intentions to pave the road to hell with. 
All this to say that I’m not lazy. 
I just trust that tomorrow me 
will be wiser than today me. 
Blindly, faithfully. 
Trusting the process. 
But if I give it all to God, so to speak, 
what have I got left? 
If I keep pushing the deadlines back, 
I’ll be dead by the time I react. 
And that’s not laziness. 
Or maybe it is that. 
Funny thing about procrastination. 
It hits back. 

It’s a tought fight.
And I’ve lost sight. 
But I’m still tryin’. 
I’ll be alright.
