A legacy collection of choice instrumentals from the golden age of SchizoBrainiac, circa 2009-2013, my previous incarnation here on Soundcloud. In hindsight, I suppose the point, if any, was to attempt to compose brilliant scores no one would want to steal. Obviously, it was not striving for success or popularity.

Initially inspired by two separate dreams (one of the dreams was a sequel of sorts), this is a suite comprising 8 sections culled from a handwritten journal of random observations that ended up getting dumped onto a huge bucket of music. A collaborative composition created remotely between myself and Tory Slusher, my first attempt at such a thing back in 2011, and I daresay it has stood the test of time, since we weren't shooting for any specific sort of genre. Let's hear it for unheard nostalgia! Programmed and produced by Solo, and significantly augmented by Tory (who of course also played guitar).

The Transcontinental Alien Samba Ritual and Variations

A jazz flavored chamber piece created to showcase concert harp, though it may be way too complicated... a common issue we run into when we compose in DAW. Composed and produced by Solo.

2 Being 1

An instrumental score intended to accompany theatrical dance, wherein the dancer portrays the life of a simple candle flame, from first match strike to final extinguishment. Composed and produced by Solo at Studio SRO, Granada Hills, CA.

Speculatopia

Composed in spring of 2010, a manic happy dance celebration of the return of later evening daylight, evening bike rides, and disabling the gas heater for the summer. Stomp meets Riverdance, with a Vangelis-flavored interlude.

Delirium Trimmings (2025 Remix)

Refurbished instrumental ruination... 2025 remix of a tarnished golden oldie from 2010. A harsh little number intended for listening at substantial volume, and good for primitive dancing if you can do so in 11/8.

Refurbished Atrophy (2025 Remix)

My take on Frank Zappa's G Spot Tornado, slowed to a leisurely 200 bpm for dialed back statistical density. Original appeared on the album Jazz From Hell, a curation of brilliant instrumental works from his Synclavier period. This version also draws from the arrangement performed by the Ensemble Modern on The Yellow Shark album.

In observance of the Lunar New Year of the Snake, 2025, here is my cover of The Man In The Dark Sedan by the great late Philip Lithman, widely known as Snakefinger, who collaborated regularly with The Residents from the late 1970s until his untimely demise in 1987. The Man In The Dark Sedan - Snakefinger Cover

Since I go by the name Solo, it's always assumed I'm a big fan of the Star Wars franchise. I'm really not, though the films look and sound great on my home theater system. I am, however, a big fan of parody, and the creation of this track was a prime opportunity to channel that side of me into this first time creative collaboration with my theatrically oriented sister Heidi Maureen... as well as utilize a bunch of familiar music cues from the soundtrack for what turned out to be a genuinely fun production extravaganza — equal parts irreverent sendup and a love letter for fans who don't take it overly seriously.

MUSIC AS A FORM OF RETALIATION AGAINST INDUSTRIAL STAGNANCE

Strange as it may seem, music is created for other reasons than making a living. For many of us it is a way of staying interested in a life that is fraught with disappointment and otherwise encumbered with obstructions to contentment. Some have asked me why I don't create music that is more accessible, with potential for popular appeal. I'll consider that whenever it seems there is a shortage of such. For now, I focus on other sorts of potentials. Not much point in spending valuable time attempting popularity through imitation, and trying to do that better than others.
