Following the smash hit “Summer Beach Edition Compilation” and Dinky’s positively carnivalesque “Time to Lose” EP, Visionquest’s latest collection showcases the label at its curatorial best. Offering up three elegant tracks from across the broad spectrum of dance-oriented electronica. The inspiring juxtaposition of David K, My Favorite Robot and Mirko Loko together on the Fall/Winter Collection works to create a remarkably unified whole, a versatile remarkable collection for the ensuing darkening months.

Following a recent slate of releases on celebrated labels like Freak n Chic, Tsuba, and Supplement Facts, France’s David K starts things off with some serious genre bending.  ‘Ghost Train’ is both lyrically driven and musically driving. Centered around a galloping, urgent synth line and snarling, disaffected vocals depicting the despondence and monotony of urban life. David K’s distinctive production is evocative of British Post-Punk artists such as Gang of Four, John Foxx or P.I.L., but through a post-modern techno vortex, this is like nothing you will hear this year!

An equally innovative, contemporary homage to the earliest experiments in romo-tech, celebrated remixers and recent addition to the Crosstown’s crew, My Favorite Robot’s ‘Forest Fires’ is reminiscent of Carl Craig, Human League and Benoit & Sergio rolled up one heady exotic blend, a truly unique and outstanding track that is already gaining a lot of expediential heat.

While Side A represents Visionquest bringing together the best in off-kilter electronic pop, on the flip side they return to their love of the outer-boundaries and experimental possibilities of the dance genre. A key component of the Swiss dance scene and recent member of the Cadenza roster, Lausanne native Mirko Loko extends Visionquest 07’s melancholic vibe with “Gloria,” a 13 minute odyssey that does for sound what CinemaScope did for film.  Sweeping, audacious, and nothing short of panoramic, in ‘Gloria’ a serpentine melody curls around almost imperceptible moments of micro-percussion worthy of the best of Villalobos. I started to think to make this compilation end of august when my friend Anna explained me the www.betterplace.org/en/projects/8617-an-elementary-school-for-ban-sakmuang-laos project.

I needed to make something real in my musician life so I asked my friends musicians and dj's to help me to raise found to build and elementary school in Laos.

Jimpster - Love You Better (Ft. Alexander East)

Matthew Burton & Kate Rathod are the next duo to leave their distinctive mark on the Visionquest imprint. Delivering a deep and dreamy melodic work out with softly fractured beats and reverberating vocals ‘The Flip Side EP’ is three wintry cuts of understated house music.

Influenced by their techno forefathers and favouring analogue gear, the duo’s organic production style exudes an improvised quality. Kate says her strengths lie in the melodic side of things, whereas Matthew is more about creating the groove but whether you’re witnessing the unique sound they make through this EP or their expanding live set, the pair’s fizzing musical chemistry is clear. ‘The Flip Side EP’ perfectly encapsulates this raw sound padded with soul.

From a naked kick and snare, ‘Warehouse Fool’ builds with warm pads, melting vocal echoes and spacey FX. The stripped back beauty of restrained hypnotic beats will provide a soothing after-hours soundtrack. ‘New Funk’ has more dancefloor purpose with its rolling, dirty groove and dynamic synth melodies.

In ‘Flip Reverse Girl’ suggestive vocals coalesce with a casual swinging groove fuelled by deep broken beats. The composition is simplicity at its finest, an entirely self-possessed sound that strikes a chord with its atmosphere, jamming feel and wry sensuality.

Long-term partners turned collaborators Matthew Burton and Kate Rathod have been producing music together for around 3 years, collecting various hardware synths, instruments and effects, which allows their sound is continually evolve. Matthew has been in electronic music for the past decade and worked with Connect Four, Retrofit and Leftroom, also giving Sammy Dee’s Ultrastretch label its first release. Kate came to dance music a little later after meeting Matthew in 2007.

After an acclaimed RA podcast, collaborative releases on Retrofit and Organic Art Movement and now Visionquest, Matthew and Kate’s live act will continue grow their burgeoning set of fans.

Its getting darker and colder here in the UK and our mind is turning to the kind of songs that strike a chord with those long winter nights. Since 1998 Anton Fielding and Bryan Robson have been recording for classic imprints like Guidance, Paper & Airtight as well as labels such as Boxer and Jimpster's Freerange. "Together" is their first release since 2008. Its heavy beats, jacking bass, killer vocal and intro that reminds us of our favourite winter record ever (Pet Shop Boys "West End Girls") prove that they are definitely back with a bang. London’s Kylin Tyce teams up with the Tessellate crew to release four slick, 2-step tracks including a remix from Moodswing label boss Perception. London based Kylin Tyce is a new artist on the circuit with an ear for ambient soundscapes, rolling beats and intricate percussion. His sound takes inspiration from the realms of early UK Garage paired with forward-thinking House & Techno which can be heard on his releases on labels such as Oldivibes, PIV and Render. You can either find Kylin behind the counter at the London record shop Phonica or playing regularly at clubs in and around the capital where he aims to take you on a journey through both old and new realms of electronic music whilst providing a continuous vibe to the dance floor. ‘Do Your Thing’ sees him join the London based event series and record label Tessellate following releases from artists such as T. Jacques, Alex Pervukhin, Firmin and Aleksandir. On the flip, ‘Thinkin’ fuses nostalgic, stripped back, UKG stylings with uplifting keys, jubilant tones and an inviting vocal line.
