The Paper Kites - Bloom (Drag & Drop PR vs. Osxilate Remix)

Formerly a Kuduru singer in Angola, PITSHU met  Jimmy the Dancer in a shelter in downtown São Paulo. Took by the dancer to a Dubversão session in the Sarajevo club when Bigode was selecting (usually Yellow P played those wednesdays), Pitshu quickly became the sound’s official deejay (sound system MC), setting the tone in the dances with his delicate chants being the perfect match to the set’s powerfull, bass driven rumble.
By 2008, when Basodá was released, the weekly party Java (every friday night up to 500 people showed up) and Dubversão’s free street dances had already estabilshed a large following an the love for sound system culture in Brazil, speacially São Paulo, the sound’s hometown.
Most of the riddims on the album were taken from Rockers Control’s sessions at Coacho do Sapo studio, in Bahia, which also resulted in the Jacuípe Sessions álbum. The band is Dubversão’s in house riddim machine, and some of those riddims appeared later in Brother Culture’s showcase Chilling Inna Brazil and Massarock’s self titled debut solo.

Java developed from Susi in Dub, the first weekly friday party held by the Dubversão crew in 2002. Since those first gaherings the crew put a lot of effort into becoming a real reggae sound system, and by 2008 the stacks were already fully blasting the bass line with scoops, a Tubby’s preamp, and a nice vibe, every time.
The sound design was supervised by legendary engeneer Wagner “Wagnão” Tavares, who started to learn his craft while living with the rock band Mutantes in São Paulo country side in the 70’s, later working wih Gilberto Gil, Tim Maia and many of Great brazilian artits.

BA-BOOM! Banda do ABC Paulista que, em 10 anos de trabalho, permanece em evolução. Som de raiz, com respeito à tradição, que não tem medo de inovar e dialogar com as influências. 

Música jamaicana brasileira, bem temperada, para todos os gostos, olhos e ouvidos, que satisfaz os sentidos e faz o corpo dançar. Conexão de ideias, com letras que falam sobre o cotidiano, a rua, o ser humano, a política e a cultura.

Ritmo forte, com melodias cativantes e arranjos bem recheados. Metais, guitarra, teclado, voz e a cozinha de peso: baixo, batera e percussão. Formação versátil, que permite à banda passar pelas mais diversas linguagens com originalidade, desde a música popular brasileira, como o baião, o afoxé e o maculelê, até o moderno ragga/dancehall jamaicano. Referência ao hip hop, funk, jazz e alguns ritmos latinos, como a salsa. Também não poderiam faltar nesse caldeirão o samba e o bom e velho ska: ritmo nascido na Jamaica, responsável pelo surgimento do reggae, esse grande fenômeno mundial. O ska e o reggae estão para o jamaicano assim como o samba está para o brasileiro: é cultura viva, é a voz de um povo que canta sua história, sua alegria e sua tristeza, seu dia-a-dia, a sua beleza. 

O Ba-boom nasce desse anseio, de resistir, de comunicar, de possibilitar encontros, conexão. Do ABC para o mundo, da tradição para o futuro, música para ouvir, saudar, celebrar a vida e a liberdade. É o diálogo do velho com o novo, do primitivo com a civilização, é o encontro. O peso do ragga com o swingue do pandeiro, o groove do ska com a empolgação do frevo, a elevação do reggae com o batucada do terreiro. Mistura de componentes que causam uma reação curiosa, perigosa, explosiva... BA-BOOM!
