Before Baba Yaga had a name she grew under bark and moss like a secret embryo of the woods. At night the trees sang a slow, deep beat into her heart — a pulse that hammered into bone and sinew. When the first twigs curled into fingers she smelled earth and old blood; she learned the language of moss and shadow. Those were the days the world began to shape her: slow weaving of bone and sap, whispered lessons from night creatures, first dreams that would become incantations.

Serpent memories wound around her like madness and wisdom at once. At night scales of long-lost ancestors appeared among the roots; their murmurs slid maps into her ear, the rattle of ancient rites, lists of names of women forgotten. Baba Yaga listened and kept them, feeling the past slither across her skin, teaching her rhythms not measured by clocks but by the curve of the body. From those coils she learned to unravel fates — not by force, but by memory that could call and bind.
