After their much heralded debut on the label with last year’s Music Mission EP, Italian collective Babe Roots returns to V.I.V.E.K’s System Music with a brand new four track project entitled Through We EP.

The Torino-based producers have risen to prominence over the last half decade having crafted an authentic, sub-heavy dubwise sound which has been cut and pressed on labels such as ZamZam Sounds, Echocord & more.

This new project is unquestionably an extension on that sound and is delivered with exceptional execution. We open with title track Through We, an utterly immersive Dub Techno slice which glides and steps with maximum finesse, layered perfectly with the powerful vocals of Joseph Lalibela.

Next up comes System which picks up the tempo and features Bristol-based mic-man Rider Shafique whose profound voice and lyricisation rides the powerful stepping riddim which bounces out of the speakers in full force.

Flip the record and find It A Come, fully equipped with earth-shattering low-end, resonating reverberations and the deeply haunting vocals of Wayne & Galas, which is then finished perfectly with a profoundly stripped back ambient rework of the same track.

Babe Roots are a relatively young duo from Turin, Italy, making a unique brand of atmospheric, techno-infused dubwise. On our radar since their splendid debut 7” on Rohs! Records in early 2016, we are very pleased to invite them into the ZamZam fold with two mesmerizing and contrasting tunes.

“Be Still” is a deeply meditative yet driving dub techno trek in classic fashion, featuring rastaman Kojo Neatness intoning on righteous living, working the land, guarding the tongue, and avoiding Babylonian schemes and traps laid by the wicked. Maternal bass and shimmering reverbs envelop a heartbeat rhythm of kick, shaker and distant snares for a timeless vibe that shows mastery of the idiom while updating it for contemporary sound systems.

We are proud to present the debut of Italian duo Babe Roots on 4Weed Records. After the first meeting in a vibrant session in Turin, an immediate and instinctive intention for a further collaboration rose up. ‘Ruff Out Deh’ is our first release on 7”vinyl. Kojo Neatness' sweet voice emerges on an increasing and dense rhythm which brings us directly to the golden age of 70s roots reggae. ‘Ruff Out Deh’ is a deep dub tune, a mystic mix of European and Jamaican sounds resulting in the fusion of these cultures immersed and united by deep reverbs. Kojo Neatness' message is universal: ‘Ruff out deh, believe me..’; Babe Roots' sound research is sublime. This release stands out for originality and quality.

Next episode of NormCore Attitude entrusted to the talented DUB Italian duo @babe-roots.

They push cultures in the best sound systems of Europe, creating immersive atmospheres with bass, percussion, tape delay and reverberation influenced by Jamaican reggae / dub sound and UK Trip hop elements characteristic of the ’90s.
After several bright works they struck us with their first LP “Babe Roots” released in 2017 and then remixed by warriors like DB1, Felix K, Forest Drive West and Mike Schommer.
The last fatigue "State Of Mind Ep" with their ally Baba Ras, out on the Japanese Newdubhall Records, will arrive on the (mostly virtual now) shelves of the European record market in the very same day.
