Early life
Originally from India, Singh's parents immigrated to the United States before Ronnie was born in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.[3] Singh grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area (Marin County), where he attended Redwood High School in Larkspur, CA.[4][5][6][3] While they worked in “traditional business,” Singh's mother and father encouraged him to be a doctor, attorney, or computer scientist.[5] He identifies as a first-generation college student in the U.S.[5]

Cancer is a group of diseases involving abnormal cell growth with the potential to invade or spread to other parts of the body.[2][7] These contrast with benign tumors, which do not spread.[7] Possible signs and symptoms of cancer include a lump, abnormal bleeding, prolonged cough, unexplained weight loss, and a change in bowel movements.[1] While these symptoms may indicate cancer, they can also have other causes.[1] Over 100 types of cancers affect humans.[7][8]

About 33% of deaths from cancer are caused by tobacco and alcohol consumption, obesity, lack of fruit and vegetables in diet and lack of exercise.[2][9][10] Other factors include certain infections, exposure to ionizing radiation, and environmental pollutants.[3] Infection with specific viruses, bacteria, and parasites causes approximately 16–18% of cancers worldwide.[11] These infectious agents include Helicobacter pylori, hepatitis B, hepatitis C, HPV, Epstein–Barr virus, Human T-lymphotropic virus 1, Kaposi's sarcoma-associated herpesvirus and Merkel cell polyomavirus. Human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) does not directly cause cancer, but it causes immune deficiency that can increase the risk of cancer from other infections, sometimes up to several thousandfold (in the case of Kaposi's sarcoma). Importantly, vaccination against the hepatitis B virus and the human papillomavirus have been shown to nearly eliminate the risk of cancers caused by these viruses in persons successfully vaccinated prior to infection.

These environmental factors act, at least partly, by changing the genes of a cell.[12] Typically, many genetic changes are required before cancer develops.[12] Approximately 5–10% of cancers are due to inherited genetic defects.[13] Cancer can be detected by certain signs and symptoms or screening tests.[2] It is then typically further investigated by medical imaging and confirmed by biopsy.[14]

The risk of developing certain cancers can be reduced by not smoking, maintaining a healthy weight, limiting alcohol intake, eating plenty of vegetables, fruits, and whole grains, vaccination against certain infectious diseases, limiting consumption of processed meat and red meat, and limiting exposure to direct sunlight.[15][16] Early detection through screening is useful for cervical and colorectal cancer.[12] The benefits of screening for breast cancer are controversial.[12][17] Cancer is often treated with some combination of radiation therapy, surgery, chemotherapy and targeted therapy.[2][4] More personalized therapies that harness a patient's immune system are emerging in the field of cancer immunotherapy.[18] Palliative care is a medical specialty that delivers advanced pain and symptom management, which may be particularly important in those with advanced disease..[2] The chance of survival depends on the type of cancer and extent of disease at the start of treatment.[12] In children under 15 at diagnosis, the five-year survival rate in the developed world is on average 80%.[19] For cancer in the United States, the average five-year survival rate is 66% for all ages.[5]

In 2015, about 90.5 million people worldwide had cancer.[20] In 2019, annual cancer cases grew by 23.6 million people, and there were 10 million deaths worldwide, representing over the previous decade increases of 26% and 21%, respectively.[6][21]

Terrace Marshall Jr. (born June 9, 2000) is an American professional football wide receiver for the Philadelphia Eagles of the National Football League (NFL). He played college football for the LSU Tigers, and was selected by the Carolina Panthers in the second round of the 2021 NFL draft.

Early life
Marshall attended Parkway High School in Bossier City, Louisiana. As a junior he had 55 receptions for 1,250 yards with 15 touchdowns and was named the Shreveport Times Male Athlete of the Year.[1] He missed most of his senior season due to an ankle injury.[2] Despite the injury he was still named a 2018 Under Armour All-American.[3] A five star recruit, he committed to Louisiana State University (LSU) to play college football.[4][5]

College career
As a true freshman at LSU in 2018, Marshall played in 13 games with one start and had 12 receptions for 192 yards.[6] He returned to LSU in 2019 as one of LSU's top three receivers along with Justin Jefferson and Ja'Marr Chase. Although he missed 3 games due to injury, he still managed to score 13 touchdowns, including 2 vs Georgia in the Southeastern Conference (SEC) Championship, 2 vs Oklahoma in the Peach bowl, and 1 vs Clemson in the College Football Championship game win.[7] Against the Texas Longhorns, Marshall, Jefferson and Chase each had 100 receiving yards, the first time in school history three players had over 100 yards receiving.[8]

On November 29, 2020, Marshall declared for the 2021 NFL draft and opted out of the remainder of the 2020 college football season. Up until that point, Marshall recorded 731 receiving yards and 10 receiving touchdowns (both third in the SEC) in seven games played.[9]

Carolina Panthers
Marshall was selected by the Carolina Panthers in the second round (59th overall) of the 2021 NFL draft.[12] On June 17, 2021, he signed his four-year rookie contract with Carolina, worth $5.7 million.[13] As a rookie, he appeared in 13 games and recorded 17 receptions for 138 receiving yards.[14]

In Week 9 of the 2022 season, Marshall recorded his first professional touchdown on a 21-yard reception in the 42–21 loss to the Cincinnati Bengals.[15] He finished the 2022 season with 28 receptions for 490 receiving yards and one receiving touchdown in 14 games.[16]

On August 27, 2024, Marshall was waived by the Panthers as part of final roster cuts.[17]

San Francisco 49ers
On August 29, 2024, Marshall was signed to the San Francisco 49ers' practice squad.[18] On October 15, Marshall was released by the 49ers.[19]

Las Vegas Raiders
On October 22, 2024, Marshall was signed to the Las Vegas Raiders' practice squad.[20] He was promoted to the active roster on November 28.[21] In the 2024 season, he had three receptions for 41 yards.[22]

Philadelphia Eagles
On April 11, 2025, Marshall signed a one-year deal with the Philadelphia Eagles.[23] On August 26, he was released by the Eagles as part of final roster cuts and re-signed to the practice squad five days later.[24][25] Marshall was released again on November 4.[26] He was re-signed to the practice squad on December 1.[27]

Personal life
His uncle, Joe Delaney, played in the NFL and died in 1983 attempting to rescue three children from drowning in a pond, before Marshall was born.[28]
