June 28th 1987, 09:30 PM.
He met Diane for dinner at Le Repas Cher near the canal. He had been looking forward to it, since Diane had been away a lot lately. Work, she said. He gently touched his pocket to make sure he hadn’t forgotten the ring. A rosegold ring with a round diamond and sidestones. 

“Diane, I’ve been waiting a long time to tell you this” he started with a shaking voice, while looking at the kobe ceviche on his plate. “First, let me say something”, Diane said abruptly. He looked up at her with a puzzled expression.
“Butch, I… I’ve been seeing someone else”. 
She barely moved a muscle in her face. Cold and sharp like an icepick. Like Cupids arrows, but the other way around.


Cupido

July 15th 1987, 10:12 AM.
“How much did I drink last night?” he wondered.
Looking around the apartment all he could see was how filthy it was, how filthy his life was.
It had been a week since she broke up with him.

“That scumbag Fernando, with his Yacht and fancy cars, thinking he could steal my girl?” He thought to himself.
He looked at his answering machine, there was one new message.

*Message received July 15th, 02:21 PM*
“Hey, Luther here. Did you get home OK? You must have had like 14 tequilas. Anyways, I saw Diane at The Neon Tiger, apparently she ended it with that Fernando guy. Turns out he was married and had some ugly business, drugs probably”

With a tiny smile he he brushed his teeth, took a clean white blazer, a pair of Carrera 5512:s and headed out, still very hungover. A new sun had risen over the palmtrees - a tequila sunrise.


Tequila Sunrise

The room filled up with a haze of perfume. Sweet like a thousand roses, yet not too intense. She dimmed the lights and walked through the room. Her movements were precise and calculated like a cat in the night. She gazed through the window like she had something illegal to hide, nervous but didn't give herself away. She shut the drapes, took a quick breath and spoke softly.

“You can come in now”

She was always there for him. When he woke up, when he went to sleep, when he came home from a long day at the office. He had never been a family man, he chose his path early on. Career was always his top priority and his goals were set high. He didn’t really care which methods to use to achieve those goals, whether they we’re legal or not. “If there’s a fast lane - use it” was always his motto. Sometimes he had doubts about his techniques and choices, but Kitty didn't judge. She just enjoyed the company.  

He took off his shoes which he had bought in an elegant boutique in Paris called “chaussures très coûteux”. Tanned brown leather, as smooth as a baby’s skin. He rolled up his sleeves and took off his Rolex and walked to the bar. Johnny Walker Black Label, two ice cubes and a twist of lime. The ocean outside the window hid many secrets, and one of them was his. He felt Kittys tail against his leg and thought to himself.

“He needed to disappear. That scumbag Fernando was just an obstacle. He needed to disappear.”
