Live recorded while Cologne's Techno stalwart Claus Bachor (alongside DJ3000/ Frankie Juncaj, David Langer, Chris Baumann, and others on two floors) played that energetic club mix down there at the PARKSIDE AC (today's HOTEL EUROPA) basement in Aachen GER, on February 27th, 2010.

This jackin' Psycho Thrill Cologne club set-snippet (59 mins) from the d2000 magazine "In A World Of Compromise Some DJs Don't!" 2002-club tour together with Roland Casper and Derrick Thompson aka DRIVETRAIN. Featuring 21 Vinyl Tracks by Umek, The Eternals, DJ Skull/ Ron Maney, Slam (2 / remixed by Christian Smith & John Selway), Johannes Heil (remixed by DJ Hell), Woody McBride/ DJ ESP, DJ Funk (2), Planet Gong, Green Velvet (2), Lil' Louis, "The Unkown Editor", Plastikman/ Richie Hawtin, DBX, Rocket (remixed by Dave Clarke) and Vitalic.

All-n-all at the end that kind of result that happens when U head like hell east from Cologne on the motorway after a never-ending day of editorial work for your magazine back in the day. And where U arrive at the club's Power Hour. And U have to go straight without a break to the turntables. Because there is no time for some nice chilling in after that rough 5-hour drive in a heavy snowstorm for a second's rest. Cause U have to keep it movin' at once when your crowd says "GO!". 

In the end, the only thing that helped was the heavy power of the ultra-phat Techno bass drum from the club's very fine sound system and nothing else. So our peeps got 90 minutes of serious Techno from every Psycho Thrill DJ on a peak time level, without mercy but more than fair on the dance floor. The only unanswered question at the end of that night and to this day: Where the hell is Christine Schneider ... an insider lol !?? And that remarkable side-effect that the local promoter handed us an indefinable white label. With the express request that I (!) should play it in my set. 

"So of course I did him the favor. Even if I was rather reluctant inside because I already knew what was in store for me. Because this record was definitely not what normally fits the Psycho Thrill sound profile. Instead, it was something between EU pop trash and that contemporary Bpitch-SoffyO-Kompakt-Pseudo-Techno of the time. However, the record did get an incredibly euphoric reaction from the audience, especially from the crowd of its producer. But I found the whole thing rather embarrassing. And I was glad when I could fade out "the thing" (42:16 - 45:06) in my set again between Lil' Louis' "Jupiter" and Plastikman's "Spastik". But the strange thing struck back to me years later, when my then 14-year-old son played me Ian Rooth feat. Frenchy "Will U Be Mine" on YouTube. And I immediately recognized this promo vinyl from 2002 based on the hook line/melody it contained. Who stole it from whom sampled it, and edited it between 2002 and 2018 ... who knows?" 

"But "that thing" sounded as inappropriate as shit to me then as it does now. But I don't apologize for it. I "did it". And this mix is ​​still an authentic Psycho Thrill Cologne Sound document to this day. In loving memory to RAVE CLUB Cologne 1988-89 ( https://psychothrillcologne.tumblr.com/raveclubcologne ) ... the relevant story here so far: Hip-House, also known a bit clumsy as Rap-House or House-Rap, is a musical genre that mixes basically elements of House Music and HipHop. The style rose to prominence during the late 1980s in Chicago and New York. The "New Style" originated in Chicago and quickly became popular across the U.S. east coast, in the UK and also in Germany (so for example in 1988/89 in Cologne's legendary RAVE CLUB > https://soundcloud.com/claus-bachor/sets/rave-club-cologne-1988-89-the ). For a closer delimitation the two expressions of black American culture, came from quite different places. House's relationship with Disco and HiNRG, closely identified with gay culture and hedonism, seemed superficially concidered in stark discord with Hip-Hop’s emphasis on gritty funk, hetero machismo, and ghetto reportage. But at the end of the 1980s when both genres were riding high and House was hotter than ever, the scenes finally mingled. Rappers wanted some House hype on their albums, and dance producers employed MCs to add some flavour to their tracks. The result was Hip-House, a strong blend of Chicago/NYC style, strictly rhythm beats, funky breaks and party-hyping lyrics that worked remarkably well ...

"To tell the truth: For myself I'm not really satisfied with the quality of my MIX here. It makes a significant difference in the game whether you play in the current daily business comparatively fast House, Techno and contemporaneous Half-Step and Electro or (Detroit) TechnoBass. Or, after years of absence, return to your own story and roots to the lower Electro Oldschool BPM rate for the aforementioned radio show. In the end, that was already a harsh jump into the so-called "cold water", and much of the mix in this mixwerk just runs after one's own claim. Therefore I'll allow myself to re-record this mix soon again in due course and then exchange it here. Nevertheless, the present result is an authentic document regarding OldSchool Electro between 1982 and 1988 in Cologne clubs and elsewhere in the world - when the boundaries between (Street-)Electro, Rap, Hip Hop and Miami Bass were still fluid -, to whose attitude I have been asked by several friends as well as 674.fm. And to which I am standing despite limitations in the mix quality to 100% with its track-content. Thanks for your understanding and SRY for any inconvenience!"

PSYCHO THRILL Cologne-founder and former NETWORK PRESS / CUT / d2000 magazine editor CLAUS BACHOR. One of the German long-term House and Techno DJs at all, and as friends in Detroit say "he's been doing this as long as anybody else that we know! His sets can range from classic Disco & old school House classics all the way to the darkest, bangin' techno that you've ever heard!" However, he's not standing still yet: The Psycho Thrill club and vinyl label run by him has just turned 29 and Bachor is still doing bookings all over Europe, the United States and beyond.

His long-term affiliations with Detroit Techno music and also his journalistic involvement with the topic of Detroit Techno/ Electro/ Chicago-House as an author/editor over the years has made him a world renowned expert. This experience and vast knowledge of the techno genre has led him to appearing in many documentaries, the most noteable being 'High Tech Soul' [ www.youtube.com/watch?v=X0DocslQ4lE ] which focused on the creation of Detroit techno music. Other film credits include being involved in the highly acclaimed 'We Call it Techno' [ https://vimeo.com/showcase/4518357/video/207023599 ] documentary which focused on Germany's early techno scene and club culture.

Without using the usual hype for trends, he has managed to gain a position as multi-​commun​icator in the German Techno and House scene, in which he is always convincing as a DJ. With "backinthadayz" Bachor goes back here to his musical roots which where deeply influenced by afro-american friends who where working at the US embassy in Bonn or taking service as GIs at US military basis in the Frankfurt/Rhein-Main and Nuernberg area in the early seventies.
