Back to Love (Club Class #1)(Lost Gems, Forgotten Remixes & Timeless Classics) - Mixed by Mark Anthony (March 2021)

First mix from my private stash of home listening grooves. All the tracks are timeless vocal 'sing-a-long' house tracks that were released in 1991/1992, so there all 30 years old or thereabouts! 

Some of them you will no doubt know, some of them you may not. There are a couple of huge timeless club classics in the mix but I've opted to play the lesser known mixes (mainly because there my favorite versions!) and they've been slightly overshadowed over the years and forgotten about...

Back to Love (Hacienda, Number 1 Club & Renaissance 'Mansfield' Classics)(Part 1 - The Number 1 Club 1992/1993) - Mixed by Mark Anthony (April 2021)
 
Just over a year ago I mixed a tribute to Manchester's 'Number 1 Club' using tracks selected and chosen from a list compiled by members of the club via the Facebook group 'The No1 Club Manchester (86-93)'. 
 
One Year on and it seems only right that we re-visit the 'Number 1' for another trip down memory lane... 
 
This time instead of doing a 'classics' mix I've tried to re-create a night and capture the sound & feel of the club from late 1992/early 1993. Utilizing some of the tracks I couldn't fit on the first mix and blending them together with the tougher more progressive music of the time I hope it gives you a feel of what a night at 'No 1' club with Tim Lennox on the turntables would have sounded like. Fingers crossed I've pulled it off....
 
I have to admit this really was a joy to do and although it's firmly a 'Number 1 Club' mix, I have to admit that by mid way through I found myself 50 miles south of Manchester on the dancefloor of another club in Mansfield, nr. Nottingham - the legendary 'Renaissance' (another place that holds many a memory).  Tim Lennox was really championing that early 90's Progressive House vibe made famous by Sasha, Ian Ossia & John Digweed. It's a sound that really doesn't get played much nowadays but really epitomizes early 90's club culture and I love it x

Life is A Dancefloor 'Ladies Night'

Sandy B - Make the World Go Round (Ryan Blythe Remix)(Mark Anthony Rework)

Originally released in 1996 and remixed by the mighty Deep Dish, Champion Records released 2 new remixes in 2020 mixed by Ryan Blythe. There was a club mix and a full vocal version.

Neither version really did it for me.  Both mixes were really short and not really long enough for club play. The club mix had a better intro and outro but didn't have the fantastic full vocal. Whereas the vocal mix didn't have much of an intro or outro to it at all! So the obvious thing to do was to combine the 2. I've not added anything, just reworked the 2 mixes and made them into a more accessible version....

After playing the PF21 'Paradise Factory' pre-club party in August 2014 I've been asked by many to do a classics mix. I don't usually do them but I was feeling quite nostalgic so here you go... Not sure if you would class some of these as classics but they were all favourites of mine when they first came out 20 odd years ago! Athenaeum, Hacienda & Paradise Factory 1992 - 1995

The Ibiza Annual 2024 (Afro & Melodic House) - mixed by Mark Anthony (November 2024)		

The Ministry of Sound use to always put out classic compilation albums during the 90's called 'The Annual'. They featured all the top tracks that were being played in clubland at the time and were mixed by many of the biggest DJs: Pete Tong, Boy George, Judge Jules, etc… They use to do 2 versions, 'The Annual' would come out at the end of the year and highlight all the biggest tracks of the past year and there was an 'Ibiza' edition which highlighted all the big tracks from the summer on the island. I got to reminiscing about these the other week so decided to make my own version featuring all the biggest tracks from the Ibiza season 2024. Hope you like it!

Southport Weekender Vibes (Soulful House & Disco Mix) - mixed by Mark Anthony (June 2025)

The 25 year old 'Southport Weekender' event is the premier soul music weekender! Held at the Butlin's Holiday Resort in Bognor it hosts a world class line up of artists and DJ's covering the whole spectrum of classic and contemporary soulful sounds. For somebody like me, I can only dream of ever playing at this level and its safe to say it ain't ever going to happen. But it doesn't mean I can't pretend...

Back to Love (Cream Classics Revisited 2026)(90's House Anthems Reworked) - mixed by Mark Anthony (November 2025)

Do you remember 'Cream' at Nation in Liverpool during the 90's? It was one of the UK's biggest clubs and a definite favourite on a Saturday night with the original residents of Andy Carrol & Paul Bleasdale alongside Paul Oakenfold, Nick Warren, Graeme Park, Jon Pleased Wimmin, Pete Tong etc...

Recently I've been listening to the early original compilation albums 'Cream Live' & 'Cream Anthems' (released in 1995 & 1996) and I noticed how many of the tracks featured have recently been reworked for todays dance floors, so I decided to put them all together in a mix.

I've tried to use the mixes that sound nearest to the original versions but with a bit of a 2020's update. Mixed live (not by computer) so not perfect but I'd love to know your thought so please leave a comment if your feeling it.

Inspired by the 'Hacienda' live stream over the weekend and the fact I haven't done one for a while I thought it was time to do another classics mix. I don't usually do them but I was feeling quite nostalgic and as we're all on lockdown and can't get out, why not... 

As with the last classics mix from 5 years ago this mix features tracks that are all favorites of mine and were played at either the Hacienda, Paradise Factory or the best pre-club bar in Manchester at the time 'The Athenaeum'.

Every track has a special place in my heart and brings back fond memories of special moments in time out on the dancefloor.

Summer isn’t Summer without a Hed Kandi ‘Beach House’ compilation....

I use to look forward to it every year as it was always thee album of the year for me and you knew that Summer had officially started when it hit the shops.

The brain child of Hed Kandi founder Mark Doyle, the first volume was released in 2000 (a stunning 20 years ago) and the music on them is just timeless, sounding just as good and current today as it did when they were released. Back to Love (Athenaeum, Hacienda & Home Nightclub Classics)(Part 1 - The Athenauem 1993/1994) - Mixed by Mark Anthony (December 2020)

Finishing the year 2020 with a selection of my personal favorites from back in the day. For me 1993 & 1994 were 2 of the best years musically with so many of the tracks now seen as classics.

If you lived in Manchester you probably use to start your weekend at the 'Atheneaum' which was easily the best pre-clubbing venue ever. The resident DJ's there were Planet Janet (aka Guy Williams & partner) and if I remember correctly Allister Whitehead was also a regular guest. Week after week these guys provided musical entertainment that was just beyond perfection. It was just a shame it had to close at 11 pm due to the licensing laws back then. 

I had the privilege of DJ'ing there about 5 times between 1994 and 1995 and the place holds many special memories. This mix features some of the tracks that ended up being my personal favorites from 'The Athenaeum'. Every track has a place in my heart and brings back fond memories of those special moments in time. The were however so many tracks that I love from back then that I couldn't fit them all in to one mix so Part 2 coming soon!

Back to Love (Athenaeum, Hacienda & Home Nightclub Classics)(Part 2 - Home Nightclub 1994) - Mixed by Mark Anthony (January 2021)

Starting 2021 with a retro mix of some of the tunes I use to play back in 1994 at 'Home Nightclub' on Ducie Street in Manchester.

Saturday nights was named ‘Sat’ and featured the LuvDup boys Mark & Adrian in the main room, Paula ‘n’ Tabbs in the bar and The Slammin Boys in the back room. Friday night was ‘Discovery’ with Mike E-Bloc & Paul Walker in the main room and Richard ‘Moonboots’ & Bobby Langley in the bar. 

Musically the place was off the hook... It was like nowhere else in Manchester. There was no warm up as such, the beats were booming and full on from the minute you got in to the minute you left - there was so much energy in the place! Hopefully this will comes across in the mix. It was very reminiscent of places such as 'Progress' & 'Hot To Trot' in Derby & 'Club for Life' in London.

I got to play there a few times around 1994 and eventually became one of the resident DJ's there and played in all 3 rooms at one time or another. I was also one of the residents there when it got re-branded at a later date as ‘Fluid’.

Finishing my trilogy of nostalgic nights at the grand daddy of all Manchester night clubs, the legendary 'Hacienda'.
 
I never got to DJ at the Hacienda (well once at a private function downstairs in the 'Gay Traitor' does that count?) But let's face it when you have Russ Marland & Mike Pickering on a Friday and the legendary partnership of Tom Wainwright & Graeme Park on a Saturday the only place you ever wanted to be in the Hacienda was on the dancefloor! I missed the early years as I was only a puppy in short trousers when it opened so I started going in 1992, but for me it was 1993-1995 that really stood out as the ultimate Hacienda years. The music, the atmosphere, Tom & Graeme working the night, it was just magical. I remember one night being stood outside were those huge fire doors and you could hear those David Morales 'Def Mix' deep basslines coming from inside, it was like a cathedral of sound... There will never be another like it.
 
This mix features the sounds and tracks that I loved and were played there in 1993. It's not necessarily the big anthems but for me personally every record just encapsulates the sound that was 'The Hacienda'. Hopefully it will transport you back to an imaginary 1993 night at the corner of 'Whitworth Street, Manchester'.

Releasing primarily deep and jazzy house music, you'll find many of his tracks featured on big named compilation albums like Hed Kandi, Cafe Del Mar, Sony Music and over 50 others. 
 
With a vast musical knowledge and collection Mark can play anything from downtempo or jazzy background music to sit and lounge or disco & dance grooves to get the dancefloor moving.
