In this week's episode, we talk about The Tagger, the problem with the second episode to a TV show, stuff that gets set up for later in this season, and which types of fans are gonna hate the podcast.

In today's episode, Carl and Aarthi talk about episode four, how Jake is The Worst, Amy's ability to deliver, and Terry gets a lot of character development! (As an aside: we apologize for the sound quality on this one. There was audio interference and all our limited technical prowess couldn't solve the issue.) 

Episode 004 - ME Time

In today's episode, Carl and Aarthi talk about episode five, the squad getting drunk, an equal-opportunity sexual harasser, and times when each of them has been shipped. They also provide a number of important Public Service Announcements.

Episode 005 - The Vulture

In today's episode, we talk about Halloween, why the Boyle/Santiago dynamic didn't really work, take strange meandering left turns, and over-use the phrase "bone person" and the Zelda treasure chest chime. 

Episode 006 - Halloween

It's the episode you've all been waiting for: The Bet! Carl and Aarthi talk at length about this episode, hence it's extra long. There's not one but TWO audience participation points -- including a straw poll of our listeners! -- and multiple shoutouts to fandom folk. Included in the conversation: the possibility of drunk!Holt, Terry making a bad situation worse, Jake's date is all about him, Amy is a huge dork, Charles is mega creepy at the end, Gina doesn't know what a payphone is, this episode could have been a series finale, and plenty of crazed ramblings. All this and more! 

Episode 012 - The Bet

We're talking about The Apartment. Carl and Aarthi share some apartment hunting in New York stories and some performance evaluation horror stories (spoiler alert: it's mostly Aarthi telling these stories). We also talk at length about how great Jake and Amy's friendship/partnership is, and how much we like seeing Boyle and Rosa be friends without any real romantic subtext. This one is probably our funniest episode yet -- we crack a lot of jokes and it's just generally a good time. 

Episode 017 - The Apartment

Tactical Village! A wild Teddy appears! Jake uses, "Vic Kovac," but it doesn't have much effect. Pokemon jokes aside, This episode is filled with relationship drama. Rosa doesn't know how to handle Charles not inviting her to his wedding, Charles has trouble being honest with any of the women in his life (which only Gina is wired to thrive on), and Jake has an important epiphany a little too late. Terry deserves a medal for herding cats half as well as he does, and maybe Andre Braugher deserved the Emmy for saying Kwazy Kupcakes in an angry voice without losing his cool. All this and more in this week's episode!

Episode 018 - Tactical Village

it's season finale time! We change up the format a little bit, squee over shipping, fawn over friendships, and then ruminate on rumors about Season Two. This episode was recorded in advance, so more recent previews and stuff are not included. Both Carl and Aarthi love this episode, and we're both super excited for S2! 

Episode 021 - Charges and Specs

In this episode, Carl and Aarthi discuss racially-charged problematicals, Derek Jeter, TV shows that Aarthi thinks are good and Carl knows nothing about, and The 'Bu. Did you know Aarthi hasn't seen The 'Bu? You will soon.

Episode 037 - The Defense Rests

BROOKLYN NINE-NINE AIRS ON FOX AT 8:30ET -- We can't stand it, we know TPTB planned it, we're gonna set it straight, this watergate...and also this copyright infringement. Carl and Aarthi talk about Jake's insistence that, "Oh my gah, it's a mirage," and he's tellin' y'all it's sabotaaaaaage. Okay, okay, jokes (and ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY song parodies) aside, Carl and Aarthi spend a big chunk of this episode dissecting the A-plot. Neither Aarthi nor Carl loved this episode, and their dissatisfaction and disenchantment shows. However, possibly *because* they're so down on the primary plotline, the B and C plots get not only less discussion time but also less negativity. They end with a little speculation on the future, with minimal spoilers because there simply AREN'T any to go around, and announce a hiatus until Easter. So listen up, 'cause you can't say nothin'.... It's SABOTAAAAAAGE. 

Episode 044 - Sabotage

BROOKLYN NINE-NINE AIRS ON FOX AT 8:30ET -- No new episode of b99 happened the week this aired, but Aarthi and Carl are back with a podcast dedicated to all the fun things you missed while on hiatus. Mostly, Aarthi talks about some adventures she had: she got to ask Chelsea Peretti a question on a live video stream, and then she got to meet a Brooklyn Nine-Nine writer in person. This episode is definitely an Aarthi-heavy one, but there's a ton of great info about the writing process for the show based on a talk she attended. All this and a Keith Haring sweater on this week's BITF! 

Episode 045 - Hiatus Adventures

BROOKLYN NINE-NINE AIRS ON FOX AT 8:30ET -- Jake gets injured, Gina is nice to Amy, and Boyle loves Atlantic City. It's extra fun this week because we have a guest: comedian Katey Healy-Wurzburg and friend of the show. The conversations wanders a bit (we take some tangents to talk about The Rock, pro wrestling, the Fast and Furious franchise, there's an aside or two about Psych, and we talk about Baltimore as well) but it comes circling back at the end as we ask the important questions, riff on humorous topics, and bring a great conversation to your earbuds. Hope y'all enjoy it! 

Episode 046 - AC/DC (featuring Katey Healy-Wurzburg)

BROOKLYN NINE-NINE AIRS ON FOX AT 8:30ET -- Jake goes, once more, into the breach. Aarthi and Carl tackle the B-plot mostly half-heartedly in an effort to do the hard work before getting to the good stuff. We talk shipping, Amy's assertiveness arc, Jake's tells, what we'd like to see from Amy in the run-up to the finale, some shoutouts to the writers of the episode, some questions about who the REAL love of Jake's life is (it's definitely Boyle), and even a little spec on some finale spoilers. It's gonna be a sweet 50 minutes, y'all. 

Episode 047 - Detective Majors

BROOKLYN NINE-NINE AIRS ON FOX AT 8:30ET -- It's a shortie! We're zooming through the B-plot to focus on the A-plot and its excellent dynamics. And then we just devolve into chat and speculation about the spoilers. Note that this was recorded on 12 May, meaning any spoilers that came out after that are not accounted for! Aarthi's avoiding spoilers, Carl's making jokes, and the stuff that got cut was longer than the stuff that made it in. Just call us....THE CHOPPER. 

Episode 048 - Chopper

BROOKLYN NINE-NINE AIRS ON FOX AT 8:30ET ON SUNDAYS -- It's the first episode of the season, the first time we have a "previously on," and the first time BITF is bi-coastal! Lotta firsts tonight, and two "missing" episodes of the podcast notwithstanding, we're excited to talk romance, pigeon pants, and Dozerpads. Our segues remain terrible, our rhymes a little lacking, but our hearts continue to be in the right place. Hiatus over; Back in the Field is back in the field, y'all! 

Episode 052 - New Captain

BROOKLYN NINE-NINE AIRS ON FOX AT 8:30ET -- Late to the party but still pretty, Carl and Aarthi talk about parallels between this episode and The Boyle-Linetti Wedding, from S2. Your hosts seem undecided about the episode overall, but a strong B and C plot keeps the episode going even when there are missteps along the way. In a rare example, Carl and Aarthi fundamentally disagree on a discussion point, and we catch ourselves armchair story-editing along the way. In off-topic addendums, we talk a bit about the still-missing podcast episodes, New York Comic Con, and the LA heat. All this and more, now that BITF is back....in the field. (Nailed it.) 

Episode 053 - The Funeral

BROOKLYN NINE-NINE AIRS ON FOX AT 8:30ET -- We're talking about Boyle's latest doomed relationship and the viability of Boyle's romantic paradigms (spoiler alert: outlook's not good) all while Jake keeps yes-anding him, which makes Aarthi wonder if the Actual Ship of the show is Boyle and Jake, and their FRIENDship. Meanwhile, the C plot is roundly panned as being weaksauce and meaningless in the face of a potentially-heavy B-plot about the NYPD responding to last year's (and, frankly, ongoing) conversations around police brutality and abuse of power. We then spend literally the last ten minutes talking about Jake as an Artist, hipster gear and all. It's a wild ride, and we're glad you're here for it! 

Episode 054 - Boyle's Hunch

BROOKLYN NINE-NINE AIRS ON FOX AT 8:30ET -- This week, your favorite sitcom podcasters cover fat-shaming and its place both within the show as well as the creative family, badass boss ladies bedeviling bird-monikered boys, and possibly the strongest A-plot we've seen in a year. Black male physicality, femslash undertones, and found family feelings are all over this podcast. Plus: Aarthi forgets about not only a fight between her OTP but also their new ship name ("Portners") while Carl insists we take a YouTube break at the end of the episode. Don't worry: they come back. 

Episode 055 - The Oolong Slayer

BROOKLYN NINE-NINE AIRS SUNDAYS NIGHTS ON FOX AT 8:30PM ET/7:30PM CT. -- All hail Queen Amy, Amazing Detective-Slash-Genius. Amy gets her rightful role in the Nine-Nine at last, while Gina and Boyle continue to dance around them being each others' endgame. Also, Rosa was cool. Your hosts dig into Boyle's messed-up relationship dynamics, taste in men (spoiler alert: it's Jake), and the forthcoming inevitable end of his relationship with Genevieve. We also talk about Tumblr drama surrounding a scene this episode, Amy's excellence, hopes for the future of the show, and all our pending asks. It's a long ep, so strap in. Episode 056 - Halloween III

BROOKLYN NINE-NINE AIRS ON FOX ON SUNDAYS AT 8:30PM ET -- A short ep which is grossly late, where your hosts mostly chat about Rosa, since the A and C plots didn't really hold our interest. Plus, some brief chatter about B99 moving to Tuesday nights again. An easy, breezy, beautiful(ly edited) episode, and it even has a cover! (Nailed it.) 

Episode 057 - Into the Woods

BROOKLYN NINE-NINE AIRS ON FOX ON SUNDAYS AT 8:30PM ET/PT -- This week, we open with a ten-minute discussion of what the future of BITF looks like given our recent run of delayed or skipped episodes, various other troubles, and personal changes in our lives. After that (and our jazzy intro) we get into the episode, talking briefly about the B and C plots (and mourning the sinking of Gina/Boyle) while appreciating a lot of things about this episode's structure. Around 34:15 we switch to the A-plot and our feelings about it. Aarthi starts out rather negative, but Carl presents a reasoned, alternate viewpoint that seems to better fit the narrative arc the show is going for. We're curious what our listeners think, both about our decisions regarding BITF's future as well as about our speculation about the latter half of the season. Plus: we reference the Godfather once or twice, so you know it's a great podcast. 

Episode 058 - The Mattress

BROOKLYN NINE-NINE AIRS ON FOX ON SUNDAYS AT 8:30PM ET/PT -- We took a long hiatus that ended up getting extended for a host of reasons, but the short version is: WE ARE BACK, baby! Carl and Aarthi catch up on various real life occurrences, then get down and dirty with Ava, The Swedes, and Yippee Kayak. The usual banter, back-and-forth, and regular charm is on full display as your favorite cohosts puzzle out their feelings about the new Jeffords child, the introduction of weirdly racist-against-Danes Swedish detectives (who are definitely banging), and the true perfection of Yippee Kayak. And, as always, there's wrestling, books, and internet culture jokes. It's a wild ride, overlong, and overdue. 

Episode 059 -- Catchup #1

BROOKLYN NINE-NINE AIRS TUESDAYS ON FOX -- In our second catching up episode, Carl and Aarthi discuss Hostage Situation, Nine Days, and The Cruise in quick succession. Neither of your hosts pretend to like anything about Hostage Situation, and Nine Days was largely glossed over in our efforts to get to The Cruise, which we really enjoyed. Technical difficulties made this episode shorter than we wanted it to be, but we talk about the good stuff. As always, please reblog, tweet, and share BITF if you enjoy it. BROOKLYN NINE-NINE AIRS TUESDAYS ON FOX -- Your favorite hosts decide that a better way to talk about this string of episodes is to basically focus entirely on Adrian Pimento. Aarthi may or may not objectify Jason Mantzoukas along with Jake, Carl and Aarthi talk about Pimento being the Darkest Timeline version of Jake, and pretty much every other plotline and character is ignore. Just kidding, we talk about how Pimento interacts with just about every character during his arc, and how his addition to the team would be terribly welcome. Plus, Aarthi brags about kind-of-sort-of meeting JMantz a time or two. 

Episode 062 - Catchup IV

BROOKLYN NINE-NINE AIRS ON FOX ON TUESDAYS -- We are FINALLY back with our last catchup episode. We talk about Paranoia, Maximum Security, and Bureau. Carl and Aarthi discuss heistfulness, Jake and Amy's relationship progression (and a retread of an older conversation about Jim and Pam and Jake and Amy and Leslie and Ben) and how time and distance will/are going to impact it. We also talk about the excellence that is Jason Mantzoukas, the OINTB-ness of it all, Melissa's real and Amy's fake pregnancy, and most importantly, continue to lament the tanking of Gina/Boyle as a viable ship. Also, Aarthi talks about her then-single, now twice appearance on @HDTGM and Carl offers for listeners to "fight me" as he usually does.

Episode 063 - Catchup V

BROOKLYN NINE-NINE AIRS ON FOX ON TUESDAYS -- Just in time for the S4 premiere, we're covering Greg & Larry. Aarthi and Carl talk about how the finale stacks up against the episode previous, its position as the ending to the arc, and just who IS Rosa Diaz anyway? There's segues about The Mindy Project, Central Intelligence (the Hart-Johnson comedy from summer 2016), and POPSTAR, and maybe some blather about What Is An Apatow Film Anyway? We speculate on how the Jake/Amy relationship will be handled (we recorded this before the 4x01 press release came out, so bear with us) and wonder if this could be how the show rolls Jason Mantzoukas in as a full-time cast member. Unfortunately, those developments and more are going to have to happen without us. With this, Episode 64, Back in the Field is packing up its mics.
