With a focus drawn squarely on artistry and creative intensity, Dez can change context and direction at will, while never losing the profound thread that guides each of his works. With past releases on several top labels that slot uniquely into various realms, his experiments cross over between IDM, techno, electro, and ambient cinematic soundscapes to combine different methods and feels into a delightfully cohesive puzzle... one that needs to be fully heard and pieced together. With this EP as our guided entry, the surface explored by Dez Williams in this upcoming series offers plenty we've not yet experienced.

Recently launched French label, Seclusion is back for its second outing. The inaugural release by Detroit’s HLX-1 garnered impressive support from DJs and the media including Bandcamp’s Best Electronic Music in May, and plays in Titonton Duvante’s XLR8R podcast, Dave Clarke’s White Noise, James Ruskin’s EPM podcast, Ben Sims’ Run It Red show, Rolando’s Better Days mix and Tom Ravenscroft’s BBC 6 Music show.

But one of the ‘Come To Me’ EP’s standouts was in fact the remix by 13130 Space Project, which is the DJ and production moniker of Seclusion founders, Damien Lapéna and Anouar Hemissi. Now they return with an EP of their own, entitled ‘International Problem’.

‘International Problem’ features two originals – the title track and ‘Kismet’ which enforce their love of deep tech with interstellar leanings and a nod to Detroitesque techno. Forming a further bond with the Motor City, they enlist Blaktony who has been a member within various groups and collectives, including Optic Nerve, early Aux 88, Aux Men, Alien FM and Scan7, to deliver a remix that bridges the gap between Techno Bass and Electro.

Ohms Love is Eivind Johansson Vullum’s debut solo LP. 
It consists of a selection of tracks made over a four-year period. Drawing from his experience in field recording, film music composition and club event curation, Eivind sets forth a seamless collection of melodic and meditative beat-free music that stands out yet fits in the rich history of Norwegian ambient music. The form of Vullum’s electronic compositions reflects his background as a sound designer, which has had a strong influence on the dynamics and the narrative elements in his music. Ohms Love will be released on HMD Records Friday March 4th.

Eivind Johansson Vullum (b.1984) is a Norwegian musician, sound designer and DJ. Vullum has since the early 2000s been active in different bands such as the kraut/psych-pop four-piece Sally Suicide. From there, he ventured into a more electronic direction sonically. He was one half of the hardware techno duo Bloksberg, which made a name for itself with its leftfield techno in clubs both inside and outside Norway. As a DJ and promoter, he presented his concept Klubb Kadabra at the club Blå in Oslo for over three years, focusing on promoting local underground DJs.

Vullum holds a BA in Sound Design from the Nordic Institute of Stage and Studio (NISS) and is currently studying Musicology at the University of Oslo. Over the last few years he has worked in sound design and music production for short films and other visual projects such as the interactive installation Speisa –performed at the Ultima contemporary music festival in Oslo– and for the Kube Art Museum in Ålesund. His most recent collaboration has been with the artist Thyra Dragseth.

The release of a young producer and live musician from St. Petersburg alias CTILICT.

Mins Kepter EP consists of 2 original tracks made on the author's setup. These tracks are an integral part of his live program. The compositions are mixed with techno, electro and metal notes of ebm. Along with this a clear melodic component can be traced in each of the tracks.

The track No More was remixed by German producer 3diz. He changed the track beyond recognition. He made an actual Ghettotech. The track was also mastered by 3diz.

The remix of T-Red was made by the Minsk producer Pean Twix, who is familiar to you from past releases of BACKSIDE SLICE. The track has a signature acid style.

'Consuming Shadow' concludes a year-long series of explosive EPs from Dez Williams. A broad realm has been established through the 29 tracks it contains, with this final instalment pushing the outer edges and re-establishing the depth and artistry Dez offers with each set.

'See-eye-hey' treads mostly in electro territory, with windup synths and newsreel vocal chop in effect, opening into a wide open cinematic blast section. The stylized snappy breakbeat fills and drum patterns wedge their way under an amp-boosted polyrhythmic acid sequence, setting up an all-in section that feels like a destination at the height of tension.

'Coiled spring' captures a raw, edgy beast of a jam. An absurd collection of wandering synths exploring a cyclical pattern, only to be repeatedly boxed in by heavy breathing drum fx and jacking breaks. Abstract stuff but no nonsense here.

Electro techno with a detroit bent and a bleep slant converges in 'hashing past' but nothing about this track sounds misplaced or outdated. Electro evolution still stretches toward future jazz and this number definitely wears its intellect proudly and to great effect.

A deeply modulated sync bass synth runs the show in 'take you for granted'. The slippery leads and low end are balanced by dry, punchy breaks. Layers of melodic themes weave and braid their way through a dynamic arrangement that wraps in a concise, stripped down outro.

The title track 'consuming shadow' is an ethereal drone through tense pads, infinite space and lost noise artefacts. Thick with tone but utterly desolate in mood, it evokes a sense of submission to detached and dystopian visions.

Ending with the deepest, most emotive track has become the convention in this series. So here we sign off with 'silvios joint', a pensive piece with classic elements and elegant composition. The lush backdrop of sliding strings, regal bass bumps and steady supporting rhythm track hold it down for continuous melodic variations in the top synth line. This is a gorgeous final statement that both asks and answers for itself.
