Backstage Pass Episode 2 - Seeking Valor

The Backstage Pass is a weekly show on Z88.9 WBZC-FM. It airs on Friday nights, starting on January 2, 2015. The show starts at 6pm and runs until 7pm. 

Hosted by Alyssa Marsdale and Landon Jones, the show places the spotlight on the center stage of the Philadelphia/South Jersey local music scene. All of your favorite local bands, all in one spot. The bands you hear in bars, small concert venues, and your neighbor’s garage, you will hear right here. 

ANYTHING goes here on the show. Rock, Alternative, R&B, Rap, Fusion, Jazz, ANYTHING!

If you were a fan of the show before the hiatus and format change, don’t worry. We didn’t forget about you either! We will throw in some of your favorite bands to help compliment our local acts.

The show brings a whole new light to the local music scene. During each show, we will go live with one on one interviews with our featured local artist of the week, play a couple of their songs, and even throw in a few surprises along the way. Yeah, we’re talking giveaways and live performances.

As for your host’s, well, let’s just say they are well qualified to handle the job. Their chemistry and experience on and off the air is something you’ll notice right away whether you’re in the same room with them, or you’re simply listening through your speakers. With a passion for radio, and a love for music, these two are meant for this show.

Starting her career in radio at the age of 16, Alyssa Marsdale has seen the ways of the industry. Starting off her radio career right here at Z889, Alyssa progressed her way through school and the industry, and is now a Producer and Promotions Assistant with CBS Radio in Philadelphia. Along with her strong background in radio, Alyssa has also played guitar and sang around the South Jersey and Philadelphia music scene. Playing the likes of The Dobbs, Hebe Music, and others, Alyssa has been on the front lines of the scene since about 2012. She continues to play and sing, and is honored to be back at Z889 where it all began for her.

As for Landon, he also started up his radio career on the Z889 airwaves. With a distinct radio voice, he not only excelled on-air, but he found himself a bit of a niche on the production side of things. Behind the scenes, Landon has played a large role in concocting magical imaging pieces of which were used (and are still used) for Z889 promos, events, and whatever he’s been asked to do. He has done work for the Camden Riversharks as a pregame and post game show host and is now a professional voiceover and production specialist in Philadelphia. As if his myriad of talents in radio isn’t prominent enough, Landon too, along with Alyssa is a musician. A multifaceted musician, Landon has also been a part of many bands over the years playing anything from drums, to bass, to guitar, and has multiple awards for both his musical and production skills. 

Both Alyssa and Landon have had many “jam” sessions together and understand the importance of the musical and lyrical content of what goes into writing a song. With that being said, the bands and interviews are strategically picked to open your ears to new sounds and even perspectives. This isn’t just your ordinary musical interview. You’ll be getting a look into the artist’s thought process and mind’s eye to understand the stories that make their lyrics and sound unique to each musician. Anything goes on the Backstage Pass and the show is limitless as to what you’ll hear, feel, and experience. It’s a music community and it’s time for the local scene to get the reputation it deserves… because let’s be honest, Philly and Jersey really is music’s best kept secret. 

MOST IMPORTANT: How do I listen? Quite simple! If you’re still old school and listen to the actual radio (which is our favorite) then just tune in to 88.9, 95.1, or 100.7 FM on the dial.
