Battle Bumps are a Long Beach funk-rap collective born from the shotgun marriage of two underground crews: the eclectically groovy Battle Bumps and their loudmouthed, shock-frat-rap best friends, Bedroom Bullies. Now united under the same banner, the group blends virtuosic musicianship with obnoxious early-Beastie-Boys energy, 2 Live Crew-level raunch, and Mr. Bungle’s taste for genre whiplash. At its core are two producers who open the studio doors to anyone — from incarcerated cult-hero MC Mike Dennis to indie femme fatale Lacey Lune to a revolving parade of scene weirdos. The result? Sleazy, funky, aggressive, and unexpectedly musical, Battle Bumps are the rare band you can dance to, laugh at, and get scandalized by all in the same track.
