While ‘Joy’ offers itself as an uplifting slice of house thanks to rolling percussion, chopped diva vocals and an elastic bass line, ‘Take Me Higher’ aims for the peak-time. Here, menacing acid sounds meet wild claps and a thunderstorm of synths. The title-track ‘Can You Handle It’ then focuses on a low-slung, driving bass line and pitched-down spoken word. Lastly, Teenage Mutants reduces the original’s elements to the essential to create a slow and spacious groover. You can literally smell the club’s sweat.
