I Feel Alright

Carriage Circle Sessions by Bad Hat is the band's attempt to interpret some classics and some new material in Bad Hat's own eclectic style.  The band's music is influenced by artists from Hawaii to the Irish Sea.  In this album, traditional songs rub shoulders with the music of Michael Jackson.  The unifying theme is really the style and the commitment of Bad Hat itself.  

"Billie Jean" opens the set, and this classic Michael Jackson hit proves again that it is a song plenty of power to be told in many different ways.  The same goes for Bruce Springsteen's "I'm On Fire," as Bad Hat digs into some Celtic elements of the song.  "Carry Me Back" is suggestive of Bad Hat's commitment to Americana, in this case with a nod to the superb Old Crow Medicine Show.  Stan Rogers's haunting "Northwest Passage" is one of the great modern folksongs.  "Louise," by the fine songwriter Paul Siebel, has, like others in this album, been widely performed, and in styles ranging from folk to honky-tonk.  "Atlantic City" was made famous both by its writer, Bruce Springsteen, and in an immortal recording, by the The Band.  "The Lady and the Isle" is one of Bad Hat's original pieces (licensed under Creative Commons), a modern interpretation of an old story from the Isle of Man, retold in music and lyrics by the band's Hunt Tooley.  "Dublin City Blues" is one of the classic songs by one of Texas's greatest songwriters, the iconic Guy Clark.

Bad Hat is a local band in Sherman, Texas, centered on Austin College.  We play an eclectic mix of folk, jazz, cowboy, and Celto-ukulele music.  The band was founded in early 2009 and has consisted of Austin College students, faculty members, and other friends of the college.  We play for fun, and sometimes for food!
