For Samuel Evans, or Rain Dog, creating this album was a vast experiment to combine different attempts of blending more traditional elements of song writing and composition with the more contemporary influences of modern electronic dance and bass music, all within the confines of his computer and chair...

Being compelled by melody and variation, Rain Dog, by his own admission, never had much talent for songwriting in terms of lyrics. To circumvent this, however, he focuses on creating a narrative within the music through the combination of synth work and samples. He starts with anything that sparks an interest or emotion in him - Tom Waits, Joni Mitchel, Ella Fitzgerald, Portico Quartet and moments from movies, samples like these usually work as a foundation for the tracks. He then adds layers of unique and organic synth sounds (a notion he finds quite interesting when working entirely from a digital platform) before eventually completing the production with the beat. He likes his music like a nice pie - warm, hearty, and crusty.

80 UA was created from the Sound Archive published by NASA. The five composers sampled, processed, reconstructed and synthesised the original sources. The tracks are crafted exclusively from the original recordings of NASA—the only rule the musicians gave themselves.

Fabrica is a communication research centre. It is based in Treviso, Italy, and is an integral part of the Benetton Group. Established in 1994, Fabrica offers young people from around the world a one-year scholarship, accommodation and a round-trip ticket to Italy, enabling a highly diverse group of researchers.

Now having an operation called an oblation on the 19th of August, burning away the over active parts of my heart. This is 3 minutes of what turned out to be a 3 hour long episode in A&E.

"Convivium" is Mario Diaz de Leon's third album under his ONEIROGEN alias, and follows the "Plenitude" EP, released in 2015. It was developed over a period of two and a half years, primarily through live performance in the metal and noise underground of NYC. Like its predecessor, the album's core instrumentation is an array of hypnotic synthesizer riffs, pummeling percussion, distorted vocals, and surging noise. With "Convivum", Diaz de Leon has crafted a powerful and singular work of heavy electronic music.

A charged sense of anticipation permeates the music, sustaining tension and mystery through spans of repetition and moments of rupture. The songs build towards hedonistic climaxes, which yield to sparse, expansive passages in which every sonic detail is vividly heard. Inspired in part by Bataille's "Erotism", which connects the "rupture of boundaries" common to sex, mystical ecstasy and ritual sacrifice, as well as the work of psychologist Stanislov Grof on the impacts of birth trauma on the human psyche, "Convivium" is an incantatory journey through primal and dark creative forces.

The artistic output of Mario Diaz de Leon spans a wide range. In addition to his work as Oneirogen, he is highly active as a composer of modern classical music (with a 2016 commission from the LA Philharmonic and releases on Tzadik and Denovali), and is the frontman of Luminous Vault, his recently formed death metal band. Envisioning all of his activity as part of a spiritual practice, he considers Oneirogen to be the most personal side of his work.

"It's just me producing everything, and of course I perform it alone as well." he explains. "Each album is a kind of personal trial or rite of passage. As someone who also works in the classical tradition, I think of them as my symphonies. Its a project where i'm open to all my influences, and i'm entering into mystery and the unknown, battling to carve essences out of formlessness."

9b0 - Motorfader - Selected Sounds Label.                                         Balazs Gyutai aka 9b0 was among the first producers in Hungary who went beyond the narrow-minded, almost academic approach to electronic genres. His insatiable desire to find his own voice dates back to childhood when he started developing music softwares with his brother. By the start of the 2000’s he created tracks with nothing else but his own editor and virtual synths. Now he works for Native Instruments as a sound designer. Not a surprise at all.

His first full length Error was released in 2010 full of opposing elements arranged precisely to counterpoint each other, from thunderous nu-skool basslines to noble post-symphonic melodies, all under the umbrella of the ever-mutating glitch. The world had to wait for the follow-up for six long years: Eleven is a masterfully sculpted album that was born in the similar manner but walked down on a different path.

“During all these years I changed - so did my music. I kept sticking to the pure, unadulterated electronica but picked up a different perspective to it” - said 9b0 himself who, thanks to his perfectionist attitude, reworked the tracks and pimped up the synths several times along the way. Just like its predecessor, the final output cannot be categorized but it also plays with harsh contrasts that are smoothed away eventually: sometimes the music levitates in monumental, pristine spaces, then compresses into a small room zigzagged by lasers; at one moment you catch a glimpse of the minimal Berlin, but after a minute you are already listening to a nostalgic piano. But you don’t have to choose - you only have to immerse yourself.

Eleven is the third release on Selected Sounds label after Iamyank’s solo album and the Budapest Selected compilation.

For his Dark Clover debut, James Davey a.k.a. Blak Nite unsheaths the technical prowess which had him pushing the boundaries of post-Ed Banger heavyness on his previous EPs, and repurposes it for slower, if not necessarily less intense jams. In simply and overtly trying to fit the pallete of what James sees as "the Origami Sound sound", he accomplishes so much more, his "Shadow Party" leveraging not only his considerable talent but a wide array of impeccable influences into bass music truly worthy of the oft-abused "future" hashtag.

Going for "something that sounded as if it was found in a ditch or gutter or down a back alley", Blak Nite delivers instantly memorable sonics – like a garbage pail coming to life, the din of its unholy movement providing the percussion, as it wrests old ghetto blasters from itself and plays whatever damaged tapes were in them when first discarded. "Dope Machine" firmly establishes this aesthetic from the outset, and employs a cinematic flair for mystery, before erupting into an uplifting assembly of manipulated vocals. "Shake" lays masterfully restrained Burial-esque heartwrenching upon a bed of brooding bass and truly broken beats. "Wicca" takes the deconstruction further... by now the beats are falling apart in real time before our ears, the vocals hauntingly and musically detune, with the song climaxing via Blak Nite's introduction of a signature grimy bass that seems to have built up organically from the crackle, hiss, feedback and detritus. "MoNY", by far the most jocular of the four, racks up the tension via its unnerving rhythm before revealing itself as a soothing finale worthy of innumerable gasps of contention.

Every track is "littered" with myriad small details, brief dialogue samples, movie quotes, all of them faintly audible at times... unveiling the considerable concept, meaning and soul poured into these songs, but only at the cost of lenghty repeated listening. Dim the lights, and have yourself a shadow party.
