Altered Motive
Night has already exhaled, and in the hush before dawn a small force hangs in the air. It doesn’t flap its wings—it quantizes the air: a short stroke, a pause, another impulse, as if the music were testing the load-bearing capacity of silence. Altered Motive is the moment when the thrust stays the same but the trajectory shifts at a deeper level—by the DEEPNAS canon: not louder, but closer; not faster, but sharper.

Drillcut works at micro scale. His hit is a metronome’s needle; the bass a warm contour that holds altitude while everything else pivots in place. Every percussive figure is a sip of nectar: brief, directed, without excess sugar. The sub doesn’t crush—it stabilizes, building an invisible platform for the listener, that very DEEPNAS depth on which you can hover, turn, and slip sideways without losing level.

Altered Motive is music for those who can linger above the decision point. A hummingbird pivots on the spot and flies on; Drillcut’s tracks do the same with your attention. In headphones, on a system, on the move—this is not showmanship but craft, the precise restraint of DEEPNAS: exact micro-motions that add up to a major forward shift.

Let’s travel back in time to 2007; who remembers Phace’s breakthrough and rebellious debut album PSYCHO released on the former norwegian Subtitles imprint?

Well, we do, and we managed to license the whole LP plus more Phace back-catalogue music from that era for a digital re-release on Phace & Misanthrop's own sub-label Neodigital Recordings!

If ever an album typified the season it was released in ["Album of the Month" in UK’s Mixmag Magazine in 2007], it’s this debut long player. Brought up on a diet of late-90s tech-step, ‘Psycho’ simply sounds frenetic, furious, punk and dirty.

We re-release this music in a deluxe pack, including further classic Phace singles such as “Brainwave, “Hot Rock”, “NOW!”, “Thrillseeker (with Noisia)” and many more. The pack includes a total of 28 tracks and is a true vintage journey through Phace’s early days :]

Also feel free to choose any style, genre or tempo for the remix you would like to enter the competition with. When submitting please make sure to title your entry properly and also include your email address so we can get in touch! 

The best remix entry will then be picked by Phace and Misanthrop and will be announced end of March. The picked remix will get an official feature and will be available for free download exclusively through our webpage. The winner can also choose a free merchandise article from our webpage-shop.
