A special all-original live Ableton performance from Her Boyfriend. In the spirit of new beginnings, Her Boyfriend has spent the last few months developing an entirely new live performance setup using Ableton Live, his trusty Maschine MK1 and Korg Nanokontrol, and the new Teenage Engineering EP-133 KOII. Join Her Boyfriend as he takes us on a journey through his eclectic music tastes, touching on electronic genres from lo-fi sampled house to UKG to sub-thumping Detroit techno.

We're back this week with an intimate home studio performance from Her Boyfriend! Over the last few months, Her Boyfriend has been spending time in between projects working on developing a DAW-less production setup based around the EP-133 KO II and SP-404. In this vibey lo-fi mix, he shares the fruits of his recent explorations, showcasing a diverse range of expertly curated hip-hop flavors and textures.

This week, we're thrilled to present a high-octane, DAW-less electronic set from OMO! Our first encounter with OMO was at our Paramita takeover in December, where his energetic dance moves, magnetic personality, and deep passion for music hardware and samplers immediately caught our attention. Utilizing his trusted SP-404 and Elektron grooveboxes, OMO creates experimental dance music that is thought-provoking, mystifying, and endlessly groovy.

We connected with OMO at Ziggy's in Ypsilanti for Gear Lords—a monthly, hardware-focused electronic music showcase he hosts alongside the 734-based promoter-organizer, Evan Oswald. In this recorded set, OMO delivers an energetic mix of electronic flavors, showcasing his eclectic ear for samples and his captivating performance skills.

Over the last few months, we've been locking in heavy with the vinyl DJ scene here in Michigan. We're super inspired by the vibrant community of selectors in Detroit & Ann Arbor who are committed to keeping vinyl alive and the amazing record shops and venues that bring them together. Shouts out to Threads, People's Records, Encore Records, Street Corner Music, Spot Lite, and Paramita Sound just to name a few! In this laidback vinyl mix, we're sharing some of our favorite recent finds and experimenting with a hybrid digital / vinyl equipment setup using Ableton. Gold is a super talented DJ, producer and vinyl enthusiast with a warm, inviting personality and eclectic sense of style that perfectly matches the groovy funk, disco and soul records in his crate. We got tapped in with Gold at Paramita where he holds it down behind the bar slinging drinks and behind the turntables serving up vibes and locking in the grooves - usually doing both at the same time! In this all vinyl mix, Gold brings joyous energy and classic vibrations to the booth.

With Magnetic Rose from the start, DJ/producer SPHiNX, played our first ever party, 27 CLUB, in 2023 and graced the decks for our femme-centric lineup OSCURA. It was an honor to add her to our mix series as both the mix artist and cover artist! If you didn't know, she's an amazing tattoo artist as well! 

This mix features proper Detroit underground sounds with tons of acid grooves. Get ready for a hypnotic ride.

You might know Steph Who? as a DJ and integral member of Bad Listener, a Detroit audiovisual and
creative collective. Magnetic Rose first worked with Steph while planning our collaborative event
CYBERDELIA back in October 2024, alongside Bad Listener x Immaculate Conception Collective at Northern Lights Lounge. Known for crafting sonic experiences that will make your head spin and your body move, Steph wove together some of their favorite sounds of Detroit’s many beloved cultures throughout this genre-bending but techno-based mix. Founded by a group of musician friends who started recording their own DJ sets and other musical projects in a living room, Bad Listener is now known for documenting important moments throughout the city’s DIY scene, throwing community-based events with carefully curated and fresh local lineups while providing a platform for the community to make their voice heard through interviews and audiovisual recording. Bad Listener’s mission is to give Detroit’s creatives the flowers they truly deserve and Steph takes major pride in their work as well as being a member of Detroit’s creative community.
