Acclaimed label Crossings brings together two like-minded artists, from Budapest (B.Craack with ‘Something New For You’) and London (Badin Brothers with ‘Crepuscule’), for Volume 3 of their celebrated Reflection series, released on 2 May 2019.

London-based Badin Brothers are back on Crossings with a heteroclite gem following their stunning ‘Monkey Flute’ EP. Lead by its hypnotic drums and broken chord synth, ‘Crepuscule’ effortlessly blends a rich variety of electronic and acoustic instruments while remarkably retaining sonic and spatial simplicity and cohesion.

Badin Brothers are the Paris born, London based production duo of Scott and Olivier Badin. The duo are renowned for their ability to produce rich and soulful music that blends styles with strong percussion elements and Latin American influences. This is also displayed in their exciting, energetic DJ sets which saw them make their Ibiza debut in 2014. Since then, Badin Brothers have played across the world. Their releases on HOUSEKEEPING Records - ‘Music Off’ EP (2017), 2018’s ‘Caravan’ EP (ft. Octopus Kid), and most recently, ‘Mind Over Matter’ in March 2019, along with ‘Dance I Say’ EP (2018) on Luca M’s Hey Momma! label, and ‘Monkey Flute’ (2019) on Crossings have all received strong support from a variety of leading DJs including Dennis Ferrer, Richie Hawtin, Gorgon City, Claptone, Richy Ahmed, Claude VonStroke, Steve Lawler, Nic Fanciulli, and Paco Osuna.

Rising house duo Badin Brothers return to Crossings with the invigorating ‘Archangel’, featuring a scintillating Ampish remix, out on 21 January 2020.

Few artists can achieve consistency with continuous innovation and versatility, yet Badin Brothers achieve just that. Their signature energetic sound is reflected in ‘Archangel’ and is combined with heart-touching melancholic melody which shows why the brotherly duo are tipped for big things in 2020.

Ampish’s remix takes ‘Archangel’ to a whole new place. It preserves much of the melancholy and eloquently builds on the original, achieving a dark and powerful big room weapon. 

On creating ‘Archangel’ Badin Brothers said: “We have had a growing interest in the melodic house and tech scene over the last few years, hearing lots of exciting new artists and tracks. After trying different approaches and synths, recent and old, we finally honed in on creating a medley of retro synth stabs and dreamy background pads and vocals. We also worked hard at creating our signature fast-paced drum lines to accompany this web of melodies, giving this track a faster pace than usually expected for this genre, and the result is a rolling mix of moody and engaging melodic house & techno.”

Archangel (Original Mix)

Brimming full of mysticism and groove, on ‘Indica’, the innovative brothers demonstrate their unique sound which fuses musical influences from both East and West ‘Indies’ drenched in hypnotic tech-house beats. The central theme is the contrast between Hinduism, Rastafarianism, which both promote music as a centre piece to one’s life, the community as well as in the search for a higher meaning and mystical experiences. ‘Indica’ here represents the spiritual fusion of India and Jamaica.

Opening track ‘Saraswati’, named after the Hindu goddess of music, art, wisdom and nature, features a smothering baseline combined with fast drumlines. The enchanting Baul vocals which come in and out of the track, swirling around a driving off-beat groove, make it feel like a prayer to Saraswati. 

The vibrant ‘Bruvva’ follows, which is a nod to South London’s Jamaican, Rastafarian and Reggae heritage in its encounter with electronic music: Jungle and their MCs. The Badin Brothers said: “We tried to bring a little bit of Jungle to our tech-house, without debasing ourselves too much and making sure the track didn’t get too hectic. It was difficult finding a middle ground we were completely happy with, but the MC vocals of course played a big part, along with the screams, the odd drop, the off-beat percussions. It all feels a bit out of place…Just like Jungle…Nothing is where it should be, but everything works out in the end, and that’s where the magic happens!”
