PREMIERE: Long Island Sound - Eleventh Hour Exchange [Gestalt Records]

Headlights sliced through the inky black, the familiar highway a tempting blur. But tonight, a different rhythm pulsed. A turn onto a forgotten road, dust kicking up like whispered secrets. Stars, a million pinpricks, replaced the harsh glare of streetlights. Crickets chirped a lullaby, the engine a gentle hum. Miles stretched, not towards a destination, but towards a quietude the highway couldn't offer. The long way home, bathed in moonlight, a journey for the soul.

Time for something sexxxxy and spacyyyy from the secret underground house area. Gnork and Luv*Jam have been working together for more than 5-6 years now, doing lots of gigs, remixes, collaborative EPs, appearing on various compilations. They have always worked a little bit more than what they let us think, accumulating tons of unreleased gems. The time has come to reveal some hidden goodies and we're proud to be premiering one of these secret blorpers from their new EP 'Bonus Blorps', out on Crow Castle Cuts.

The original Blorp93 yellow vinyl surfaced in 2013 and was championed by the likes of RVDS, Bradley Zero, DVS1 and Wolf Music. Since this time, there have been a few secret cuts floating around here and there, some of which lots of people were 'demanding' to be pressed. Your prayers have been listened, those very secret Blorpers are here on one precise 12", and for starters you can listen to 'Sexxxx in Space' from Gnork's infamous Lost In Budapest Mixtape. Luv*Jam completes the secret space circle with some special dream nips. Limited Series 06 drops on Banoffee Pies Records. This time with some saucy Pink legs showcasing a predominantly Bristol based representative of Leftfield House and UK inspired productions from Jazz to Electro and 2 step.  
Gallegos’ “Save Your Love For Me” quickly engages  your focus with melody rich tones and enticing vocals pushing on to an interestingly themed A side with the likes of “Hanging Gardens” from local  Seka premiered here and the complex drum patterns of “Dreams” from Jay Anderson, another artist to recently join the labels affiliates with an appearance on the second Banoffee Pies Black Label imprint.  
 The B side is pleasantly introduced by a more head nodding groove from Owain K with “Touched “, and as with many of it’s predecessors, this Limited Series installation is rounded off with a Beat and a mood from a smoky lounge, just as heard previously from the Banoffee Pies Beats Series showcasing similar sample heavy loops. Another record with diverse uses for the DJ and listener.  Music for prancing, love and dancing.

ESB - Going Away [Echovolt]

Dub and acid are the words as Marlon Hoffstadt goes deep on ‘Simple Communication’ the sixth EP in his Midnight Themes series. The Berlin producer has maintained a busy release schedule in 2018 and is intent on carrying through into 2019, starting with three tracks that fly the flag for his current sound: deep, dubby and subtly euphoric.

Opener “Take A Moment” is a finely tuned piece of weighty dubbed out techno with whiffs of vintage pool parties and a lonely acid line creepin’n’bleepin on the horizon. “Action and Reaction” harks back to the 90s, rolling out waves of pads and melodies that ascend and descend while a mean old bassline keeps proceedings on track. Clocking in at 11 minutes, the two act play of “Eye Contact” closes the EP on a blissed out note.

Italo house, Balearic beat, Chicago's stomp and Detroit's funk all stirred up into a nice loose hybrid that seems to become Look Likes signature sound. Lovely stuff!! DJ Life is a relatively new name in the electronic music circuit, but you wouldn’t guess it listening to his newest track “Rock the beat!”. The Melbourne native teams up with Gnork, Louis // Louis, and #130E0A to release the “Earth Plates Vol 1.” EP coming out May 18th on Gnork’s blorp music affiliated imprint Earth Plates. The label has only been around for six months, and claims to dedicate its music to the “lovely green and blue plate called Earth”. It’s not difficult to see why as their catalog thus far is comprised of lush, textural techno, house, lo-fi, acid, breakbeats, and everything in between. Earth Plates’ releases are ethereal yet focused, transporting listeners to an almost meditative state.

“Earth Plates Vol 1.” is a collection of atmospheric house thumpers by up and comers (bar Gnork) of the genre. It’s likely Gnork’s sound was a source of inspiration for DJ Life, Louis // Louis, and #130E0A as their entries for this EP follow in his sonic footsteps. DJ Life’s “Rock the beat!” is an ear-pleasing voyage featuring layered rhythms, oscillating chords, the occasional acid stab, and a vocal sample so heavily filtered it’s incomprehensible. But it’s all about the mood on “Rock the beat!”, and it creates one so alluring like the other tracks on the EP you’ll find yourself wishing the track was at least double its length.
