Playing With DENSITY

An experimental, ambient piece using various recorded sounds created by me and my violin.

Details of techniques used:
Recorded long breaths in, long breaths out, my creaky floorboards, col legno tremolo, and a pitch shifted pedal note (played on the lowest string on violin and shifted down an octave); as well as pizzicato violin, harmonics and above the bridge, and normal legato bowing. All randomly improvised to purposely not follow a structure; with plenty of reverb added, with extra delay applied to the col legno tremolo and the vocals.

"Nordic Rumour" is a duo in South West England that specialise in performing Scandinavian Traditional Folk tunes. They perform using fiddle, hurdy gurdy and octave mandolin among other instruments.
This is a short demo album showing some of their repertoire.

Sekstur From Vendsyssel

This is the original soundtrack for MA Student, Julia Alcamo's, final film: Perrücke.

The film is a real life mini-documentary of the filmmaker's family and how they cope with the mother's diagnosis of cancer.
The music takes you through feelings of reflectiveness, darkness, hope but generally remains positive - mirroring the overall positivity of the family throughout the ups and downs.

This is a track I wrote for a Burlesque dance... yes really!... as part of a project I was working on at the time, but it was unfortunately not used in the end.

Now it stands alone as a little jazz track featuring a solo Sax. I especially got Embertone's "Sensual Sax" plug-in for this (without access to a real saxophonist), and I put it to good use! It is a fun plug-in to use and is easy to make sensual sounding sax sounds.

Sax Solo - Jazz Track

In honour of St. Patrick's Day today (Sun 17th March 2019), here is something that sounds Irish but is 100% original and composed/performed by me (and I'm not Irish). This may be heavily influenced by Riverdance....

It is an unfinished track, a work in progress, but still has some nice tunes in there and some cool moments, so enjoy!

Original "Irish" Folk Set

A mashup/remix of Lil Nas X's "Old Town Road" and Nickelback's "Rockstar".

Ever since hearing Old Town Road for the first time, I couldn't help but think it might fit with Rockstar. So I finally came round to finding some instrumentals and separate vocals and, after a little pitch and timing correction, this monstrosity was born. But to be honest, the more I listen to it, the more it grows on me! Enjoy!

This was the second time I've challenged myself to make a track in a day, and was great fun to work on over the last 24 hours!

Helpfully enough, for the Celtic appeal, the original track was already in a 6/8 rhythm, so a transposition down one semi-tone to a folkier key (D major) was all that was required! Once again, the middle tunes are my original compositions.

This was the third time I've challenged myself to make a track in a day, and this time I followed the structure of the original track then added my own twist. This arrangement follows the structure of the original track. The chorus and bridge tunes are my own.

Featuring a transposition up one semi-tone to a folkier key (A major), some nordic inspired double stopping, and the usual bass, piano, and drum kit combos that I love so much!

Sigrid - Don't Feel Like Crying [Celtic Cover]

This Celtic Cover was a lot of fun to do as this is such a great track! In previous covers I have usually ended up playing the verse melody and composing a new reel or jig for the chorus, but in this song the chorus is so nice that I switched it around!

This track is brilliant to play along to and once again features a new and original reel during the verses, composed and performed by myself. Featuring better mandolin strumming and whistle tooting (these covers are turning out to be great practice for my playing!).
