This is the first EVER ill.GATES track, way back in 2007… Got to remix one of the glitchiest of OG glitch hop/breakbeat/idm originators: Si Begg.

My friend Stephane aka Teknostep and I spent way too long making a ton of different versions of this nutty ass song. Some of the other versions ended up becoming ‘Cut, Copy Paste’ ‘Scratchdisc’ and ‘The Skizza’ off of Autopirate + The Autopirate Remixes.

Stephane was the one who got the gig, as Si Begg was really into his tune ‘Dynarec’. Stephane was just getting into Ableton and stuff so I totally used my knowledge of Ableton to convince him it was a good idea to let me get in on the remix gig. He wanted everything to be all lots of layers of him playing jazz piano and I didn’t, so we kinda ended up butting heads on it a bit. The weirder end of those results ended up coming out basically verbatim under a different title later. That track “Cut, Copy Paste” is one of the most fucked up tracks I ever made. We will get to that later.

The sample at the beginning is Dewey dB from http://glitchhopforum.com on my answering machine telling me about his first forays into producing, lol. We also made the phone play the first bar of Canadian National anthem. The singing at the end is Stephane er... 'feeling good'. 

Ah the folly of youth!

TL;DR: we did way too much drugs and stayed up far too late working on this… Like multiple nights too. This was a big inspiration for the streamlining of my workflow that happened later. Some lessons you just gotta learn the fun- er… hard way.
