Starting the last week of January off and continuing the download series here at Conscious Wave is California's own Martin Matthews, aka Knowmad. An active member of the international bass music collective Infra Tribez, dedicated to sharing exclusive tribal, ethnic and cultural influenced bass music, Knowmad generously delivers CW an original deep, meditative composition, comprised of a vast, sacred soundscape, rhythmic organic percussion and a deep, calming sub bass.

Continuing to push the sounds we have grown to admire here at CW, the track Lakota explores a wide, organic soundscape filled with panning percussion sounds, tribal drums and mysteriously chopped vocal clips, all sitting nicely over a calm, yet firm meditative sub bass. Lead by a lone pan flute, the track intelligently builds and releases energy over the course of 6 relaxing minutes.

Spontaneous Composition 1am 25/12/2015. This work was created inside a trance; in Deep Play- a reverie at the possibilities of the Federation Handbells, 24  individual bells as two octaves of the chromatic scale and a new tool for community through music I had received from Museums Victoria several days prior... earlier that evening I had glimpsed their potential to engage non-identifying musicians in my neighbourhood at an informal gathering that happened spontaneously at my place that Christmas Eve. The guests cleared out, the clock struck 1 and I was left with the Bells and some new and ecstatic suspicions about the pagan origins of the dawning Holiday.  During the process captured here my understanding of what I was engaged in shifted from 'improvisation' to 'spontaneous composition'; I still don't quite know what this means but I feel the distinction to be more than semantic.
