The fifth Item of “Tome of Stars”, “Quixotosis”, marks the poet’s transformation into a sustained state of paradox with an enduring condition of impractical idealism born not from naive delusion but from its aftermath. Emerging from the frozen void of “Anemochory“, these sixteen poems depict a fractured self that has ceased resisting its nature, accepting permanent separation from the beloved while continuing to orbit her in love without expectation (and in the end, without hope) of return.

This sonnet revisits the poignant farewell of Aragorn and Arwen as presented in “The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King”, but beneath its narrative of noble parting lies a deeper, personal meditation on mortality. Through a retelling of Aragorn’s death and Arwen’s sorrow, the poem gradually reveals its true subject in the couplet: the poet’s reflection on J.R.R. Tolkien’s conception of death not as a curse but as a gift (the “Gift of Men” as it is called in Tolkien's works), a release from suffering. This idea resonates with the poet’s own experience of long-term emotional and physical pain, suggesting that death, far from being feared, may offer a kind of sacred and merciful deliverance.

The title, “Leithian”, is a significant and deliberate choice. It references “The Lay of Leithian” (“The Release from Bondage”), Tolkien’s epic poem about the mortal man Beren and the Elven maiden Lúthien, a prototype of Aragorn and Arwen’s story. The word itself means “release,” particularly from suffering or imprisonment. By adopting the term, the poet draws a mythic parallel between the redemptive love in Tolkien’s world and his own yearning for deliverance. The true subject of the poem, made explicit in its final couplet, is not romantic reunion but release from pain. Thus, the title serves a double function: looking backward to Tolkien’s mythic vision of death as freedom and accepting mortal fate, and forward to the poet’s own hope for personal liberation from the bondage of grief.
