The timing is ripe, just after the celebration of Yalda, the victory of light over darkness, and the birth of Mithra, the Sun God. The Corona of light sits at the end of this dark tunnel. Baham - Café Norouz 8

Baham aim to express their own memories, stories and history in the rhythms of their electronic dance music. They meld the old and the new into mystical expressions steeped in culture and built on enchanting beats. They showcase that here on a brilliantly tender new groove that is rich in cultural references.

'Mara Beboos (Golnaraghi)' is a seductive six-minute track with languid bass and rolling kicks that sink you into a state of deep hypnosis from the off. The playful melodies bring a sense of charm before falling away to reveal some exotic vocal chants all the way from the Middle East. It all adds up to a hugely characterful cut.

Philipp Jung is the Get Physical Music and Kindisch A&R and a legendary German DJ and producer who toured the world and co-wrote many dance music hits as one half of M.A.N.D.Y. He flips the original into a more club-ready house cut with bouncing drums, hooky percussive sounds and curious melodies that lead you even further down the rabbit hole into a world of late-night whimsy.

These are two unique new house grooves from Kindisch.

We share a special connection with every artist involved in this project. Mercan Dede and Bahramji are both musicians we've admired for a considerable time, and their unwavering commitment to bridging the musical traditions of our homeland with the global stage is truly remarkable. Golshifteh, likewise, is an artist whose work has been a part of our lives through timeless films, both within and beyond Iran. And of course we hold deep respect for the Baham duo, not only for their musicality but also for their profound insight, extending beyond the realm of music.

Our approach to this remix can be described as somewhat purist. The original composition has so much richness, depth and beauty that we were determined not to undermine that in anyway. Our intention was to add our groovy gritty club vibe while preserving the core essence of the piece. The dry and slappy percussions interact with a line of ancient yet playful melodies of the Santoor and Ney. Golshifteh’s voice lures you into a vulnerable place only to create space for Bahramji to make a profound entrance, channeling his divine energy into the track. The drums and melodies continue to push you deeper into the experience as more revelations unfold the deeper you go, much like the original composition.

In these unusual and challenging times, we were fortunate enough to sit back and express our creativity with a new mix celebrating Nowruz and the onset of Spring. The set features some unreleased music including the track 'You Are Simin' from our upcoming release on Abracadabra. 

Café Norouz artwork has traditionally been based on nature photography captured during family camping trips. Given the quarantine that made us homebound this year, we chose a photo taken from our Montréal loft instead, which was then mastered by the great Leon Tabary.

Baham is a coming ‘together’ in the creation of a shared experience, a musical partnership between friends, an artistic expression of a collective. A multimedia project led by the Montreal based The Doctors, the duo of Houman Farzin & Kam Kafi bring together elements of folk music reinterpreted through electronica. 

Their ‘You Are Simin’ EP for Blond:ish’s ABRACADABRA will tickle your technicolour senses, and with an added remix from Gab Rhome & Adisyn, another spiritually effecting release enters the ABRACADABRA catalogue. 

“We found this amazing 70's Persian Western record where the main verse says "You are the one", and thought how poetic to use that as our first release. It was like it chose us itself. The Shahre-farang from the cover art, originally designed by Maryam Khosrovani, inspired this idea of a glimpse into a foreign world, and here we are offering everyone a glimpse into our culture in a playful manner. Renowned artist, Ali Sabet then gave us one of his script drawings with a focal female character after hearing our track, and she became the one; an ode to Simin”, Baham explain the title track, which Gab Rhome & Adisyn ably add some bottom end and more driving rhythm to on their exceptional remix.”, Baham explain the title track, which Gab Rhome & Adisyn ably add some bottom end and a more driving rhythm to on their exceptional remix. 

Collaborating with Mahmood Schricker on ‘Call It Love’, Baham describe their collaborator as “...a next-level character who makes some pretty eclectic music. He plays multiple instruments and has this in-depth knowledge of Persian music from pop to traditional”.
