To explore the colourful world of sounds and music, we invited 13 artists this time, resulting in 10 highly individual and captivating songs. Each song represents a colour and together they form a rainbow-like work of art. In addition the selected titles contains an incredible number of different styles and facets. Counting Colours represents diversity in miniature and has something for every musictaste. This release has a long history. I’ve heard “Into the night” in the series Twin Peaks for the first time. It was the early nineties. Since I fell in love with the music of Angelo Badalamenti and with everything that the great David Lynch does. I had the idea to remix this track a long time ago. However, it was possible to record a cover version only in 2017, together with the singer Tatyana Shchelokova and my friend and teacher Max Sozonov (RIP).

Last year I had an idea to make a new sound for this cover and release it on my label downtempo, baby! My friends Reyneke (DE), Alex Doering (ES) and SEVN(CA) joined me. Thanks guys, this wouldn't have happened without you! 
On June 9 of this year died Julee Cruz. She was the singer, who first performed & Into the night in 1990 for Twin Peaks.

We dedicate this release to her. RIP Julle!

Smash Bang label manager and pioneer of Australian downtempo house music is back. After his recent album release 'Solitary Collusions' The Oddness brings you remixes of 'You Don't Know' featuring vocals from Melbourne based pocket rocket and ultra-talented Lil Magdelena. 

Firstly on remix duties, Smash Bang are over the moon to have internationally renowned Kermesse from Argentina, who have had a huge impact on the downtempo and world house scene over the last few years. Kermesse's infectiously funky and colourful take on 'You Don't Know' smells of witty bumpy synth work and a fun time steeze with crafty vocal layering. Secondly on remix duties, the label welcomes Jake Jurant the Sydney based producer with a background in chillhop and lo-fi flavourings, his warm broken backfoot bop of 'You Don't Know' takes the track in a completely different direction with warm hip hop tones. Rounding out this premiere package the Oddness has added an instrumentally driven, uber funk'n re-do.

Sometimes we forget to count and have to remember ourselves how many compilations we have released in the last 3 years. We can't believe it, but we're super proud to be able to present down.tape 7 to you. Yes, you read that right, number 7.

As always, we invited our current favorite artists to be there. Of course, this does not include those who have already been part of an earlier compilation. It's really nice to see how fast the scene is growing and new interesting musicians are entering the stage. Without them it would not be possible to create such beautiful and varied releases.

This time we're going into a diverse direction, hoping the dancefloors will glow. You can expect 17 tracks, all of which were produced with a lot of passion and heart. We have a feeling this could be our favorite down.tape to date. A big thank you goes out to the various artists, our artwork master Kilian Van De Water and to Haunted Water for the great mastering. We hope you enjoy this as much as we do!

Sydney Sëymour - Spanish Mermad (Deep Ändi Remix) [trndmsk]

After a May 2022 debut on Particles, Maximilian Peter returns to Particles with his Kerosino production moniker. "Kerosino II" continues where the German artist's first eponymous album left off and three new originals are joined by remixes from Hrag Mikkel and about : river.

Opening proceedings, "Batiri" is a smooth 10-minute offering that shimmers with beautifully arpeggiated synth lines and metronomic beat. A head-shaking metallic percussion adds to the groove while shuffling hi-hats create another layer of syncopation. In tandem, a delicate 303-inspired motif coruscates across the track, rising and falling with gentle energy. "Tikila" immediately appeals with its darker edge as a deep kick locks quickly against a repetitive bass groove. Changing perceptions through melodic persuasion, a lighter motif meanders across the track making its presence felt with filtered energy as it syncopates elegantly with bass and rhythm. The final piece of the jigsaw sees a digitised voice proclaim the "Tikila" title at regular intervals throughout. The third track finds "Zazafi" presenting a dance-friendly bass groove sat within tight kick and sharp percussion. Following the same narrative as its EP partners, a beautifully sculpted arp makes its mark with plucked ease while a wonderfully sustained bassline progression adds a touch of class at the breakdown before a rousing crescendo and spoken sample heralds the return of melody, rhythm and groove through the third movement.

A powerful force within the Lebanese underground dance fraternity, Hrag Mikkel has found a way of turning the adversity felt in his homeland into a steady supply of dynamic and sought-after productions. Finding his music featured on some of the finest modern imprints: from Pipe and Pochet and Proton Music to Hoomidaas and Harabe, the Beirut star makes his Particles debut with a stunning reimagining of "Flamencano" from Kerosino's debut. Upping the tempo from the original, the Hrag Mikkel remix evolves quickly into a joyous rhythmic groove as beautiful synth lines swirl across the track in counterpoint patterns. Retaining the underlying themes form Kerosino's stripped back original, Mikkel's skill is to open up new melodic paths with a swathe of additional production that creates a powerful dancefloor gem. Glittering into the second half with new piano phrases and deep sub-bass groove, the result is a superb new reworking.

Regulars on Particles over the past 12 months, the father and son double act of Oleg and Ervin Ivanov have created quite a stir with their about : river pseudonym. Hitting early heights with their "Go Into The Mist" EP in June 2021, the Estonian pair showcased their unique sound to the Particles faithful before "Round Table Jams: In Between (Live)" provided a moment of electronica reflection and seven cuts of rare beauty in April 2022. Remixes for Davide Ferrario and Chihaka are now joined by a third with another reworking of "Flamencano". Full of melodic sensitivity, the about : river remix quickly creates a strong rhythmic and melodic groove that captures themes from Kerosino's original before adding layers of subtle intrigue, not least through Ervin's haunting clarinet lines. Retaining echoes of Kerosino's rhythmic structure, the result is another trademark offering from the about : river studio, full of poise beauty and grace.

The human blink is controlled by the subconscious. The reflexive closing movement of the eyelids clean and protect the eyes. When we blink, the visual centre in the brain is regulated. Therefore, we do not consciously perceive this whole process and the briefly reduced incidence of light. On average, this procedure is conducted 10-15 times per minute. In moments of great excitement, joy or concentration, we can blink significantly less often. Due to the excessive focus, the blinking becomes a consciously controlled process for a certain amount time. The first Joe Carl EP on KataHaifisch contains two tracks.
