Blending gentle textures of ambient, synthesizers, lush vocals and cascading notes, the producer creates a warm and detailed bouquet with his evocative charm with every release. This selection of ambient works originated as part of a score for a yet-to-be-released documentary ‘My Friend Louie’. The film explores the life of Louie, a 19-year old trans woman living in Brazil, as she reconnects with her mother and brother at a pivotal moment in her life. It also details the friendship that develops between filmmaker Kyle Morrison, and Louie in the aftermath of their trip, as he works on regaining his sobriety, and she takes the first steps towards living fully as a woman.

“I felt a deep attachment to these pieces and wanted to release them in hopes that others would connect with them too. The cues I had written were all quite short so I decided to expand them for this EP – creating a deeper world for the music while not losing sight of the original inspiration. There is such a range of emotions in the film, from grief and regret to wistfulness and exuberance, and I attempted to capture all of that in the score.”

Moody analogue pads blend with textured pianos to provide the core of these pieces. Solitude and isolation are channeled through both the music and the visuals they have been paired with. For this release, Kackley traveled to a remote area of Canada in the middle of winter to record a live set and film the somber, barren landscape. These visuals highlight the push and pull of anguish and calm that characterize this EP and the initial source material that influenced it.

Nuage and pecq’s melancholy bit of summer nostalgia, ‘Night Air’, gets a makeover from three distinct, tastemaker producers: BAILE, QRTR and il:lo. These remixes capitalize on the somber, airy vocals and lush bells and pads that led to the original racking up over 400,000 streams.

As frequent collaborators, BAILE and Nuage have an effortless way of meshing their sounds, and BAILE’s rework of ‘Night Air’ is no exception. Accentuating the stuttering pianos and vocal chops, BAILE adds in a choppy breakbeat and bumps the tempo up, to create a DJ-friendly version of the original perfect for a daytime festival slot or a sunrise set at Burning Man.

BAILE’s remix is out on August 16th, just in time for the end of summer, with the full remix EP dropping October 18th.

BAILE’s 3rd volume of Ambient Selections attempts to channel springtime in upstate New York. The villages are thawing and the bitter cold is giving way to warmth – lagging behind most of the US, but warmth comes nonetheless. There’s a joy in it but a bittersweet memory of snowfall and the rivers and lakes freezing over. 

Pianos scatter and cascade as synths swell and glitch across the soundscape in the lead single ‘Heaven in Time’. The piece was written as an ode to the morning and glimpsing the sun as it first peaks over the horizon – it feels like catching a glance at heaven.
