Springfield, meet Juwan Holloman! 

"Juwan is a young 22 year old entrepreneur who happens to be my step son, so needless to say I have watched him grow into an amazing person over the years. He has truly grown into a hero. He went from being an average teenager to an amazing man, mature beyond his years. On top of working two jobs and attending college, he donates toys to the local children's hospital, feeds the homeless, donates to battered women's organizations and my favorite accomplishment is his Success Team. Once he began his work in the community, he found such a love for helping others, he took it upon himself to organize a team dedicated to the preservation and equality of our community. He personally funds and sponsors events that help the needy in our Springfield community! His goal and purpose is not only to help those in need but to promote equality on all levels. His first event fed the homeless downtown on the square. It was a success! Our entire family went downtown to support his efforts. It was an amazing sight as we pulled downtown and saw the line of hungry, cold people being served hot food. The square was full that afternoon with the less fortunate. However, despite their misfortunes, they were all smiling as they were full. My step son and his team honored these individuals as they were equals. Juwan continues to plan and sponsor events in the community, all of his efforts are non profit and funded solely by himself. His pure selflessness and genuine love for those less fortunate have touched our entire families heart and made us all strive to be better people! He is our hometown hero! #SuccessTeam"

Springfield, meet Jill Bright!

"Jill Bright has worked tirelessly to make sure that babies in and around the Springfield area have diapers. A Diaper Bank is the store house, and it supplies diapers to Partnering Agencies. It is the Partnering Agencies who distribute diapers to the families in need. While the Diaper Bank supplies the needed diapers to the community, it relies on other members of the community to hold Diaper Drives and Diaper Showers, and for individuals and businesses to provide monetary and in-kind donations to sustain the supply in the store house. With just an idea and working around the clock, she has helped so many people that would not have gotten help without the diaper bank supplying partnering agencies. She is a selfless person and concerned about the health and safety of babies in need."

Bailey's Hometown Heroes - Jill Bright!

Springfield, meet Ben Plate! 

"Family members often say they love each other or would do anything for one another. How often does someone get to truly prove that? My 19 year old brother, a sophomore in college, not only had the chance, but seized the opportunity to show me he cares for me more than I can ever imagine, and in the process became and will remain a hero to me. I was diagnosed with a kidney disease when I was 4 and Ben was almost 8 months old. His upbringing consisted of a lot of hospital visits to see a sick older brother, and quite a few extend stays with friends and family so my parents could care for me. It was incredibly difficult for him, and it was hard for my parents and I because we could do little to help. Nevertheless, Ben excelled at Kickapoo and received a full ride to Truman State, where he now attends. He could finally get away and not have to deal with a sick sibling constantly. That is, until I found out I needed a transplant in October 2013. I refused to tell Ben at first because I didn't want to worry him, but he eventually found out through some friends. He immediately called me and told me I didn't have a choice, he was going to give me a kidney. Since then, he has been working every day to put himself in the best position to give me a kidney this upcoming summer. He's my hero because he finally had the chance to run, to be his own person and forget chronic illness. Instead, as soon as he heard of a need, he jumped at the call and is right there when I need him the most. Not many people can say their 19 year old brother would save their life, but I know I can, because he's going to do it in 6 months."

Springfield, meet Amy Hall!

“Where do I even begin to describe an amazing lady?! I met Amy about 7 years ago and have been welcomed into her family. Since I have met her I knew she was a special person! For me personally she has always been there for me and my kids if we needed something. She has volunteered her time to many things like church organizations, cemetery boards and has also, with the help of a friend, started a food pantry. Many pantries have community help, but with this one, she has put a lot of her own money and time into it. She never turned anyone with a need away. And if they couldn’t come to her she would bring it to them! She has also helped give needy families from church a Christmas that they wouldn’t have otherwise. And has also helped a friend in need when she had foster kids and little income. And with all of this she did out of her own pocket! She did all of this while working and supporting her own family! She has made a difference for me and so many others! She has such a caring heart and I am very blessed to be a part of her life!”

"My mother's home caught fire on Lee St. My brother lost his son. My mom lost her grandbaby and home. These 2 men not only went in a house of flames to save my nephew, Bentley, but they have helped my family personally in more ways that anyone would ever understand. Not only are they heroes, they are also local artists... Too Much Entertainment... with all this being said, I once again want to say thank you for everything and I got so much love for both of you."

Springfield, meet Brie Vonxaon!

"I had just gotten out of a 10 year marriage and I had nowhere to go. All of my old friends had gone with my ex-husband and I had just met her at a local show because I promote local music for 417. About a week later, I met her at her house and she had me move in with my daughter. She's a nurse at Lakeland Regional Hospital for the psych ward for children. She was able to really help me with the process between divorce and getting my daughter acclimated to a different life. She has given me such a warm home to turn to and the most beautiful friendship I could ask for. She even helped me start up my own venue. That has been my dream and hope for many, many years. She completely redirected my life and completely saved me from a very bad situation. I am in so much reverence for her ability and capacity to love. And I know that I would not have been so strong through this situation if I had not had her behind me every single day for the past 9 months."

"Kirt joined the army right out of high school in 2003. He was first cav. First to go into Iraq when operation Iraqi freedom took off. He went on to serve two 18 month deployments before going into the National Guard where he spent most of his time on hurricane duty. He is currently still in the national guard in Missouri. If you ask anyone that knows him they will tell you he would do anything for anyone at anytime. He works extremely hard to take care of me and our 5 children. He's the most selfless man I've ever met. Please choose him for hometown hero."

Melissa is my best friend, mother in law, and the mother of my soul mate. She has been with me every step of the way through mine and her son's sobriety. She has seen me at my best and my worst. She motivates me to be the strong woman I am today. She always believes in me and encourages me to always do my best in anything I do. Melissa is the strongest woman I have ever known. I know I can talk to her about anything and she will never think less of me. God has blessed me with such a beautiful family and Melissa is definitely an angel sent from heaven.
