We’re very pleased to present the latest instalment of the Bside Incoming series from Bristol based DJ, Producer, Record Collector, and ‘Room Service’ Label boss: Gallegos.

He’s plenty of experience behind the decks, as the founder and resident DJ of SHAPES in Bristol, where he’s warmed up for some of the very best in the business: Carl Craig, Omar S, Deetron and Move D. Since his debut release on Banoffee Pies in 2017, he’s maintained a steady stream of original and infectious dance records including his ‘B45’ EP which was featured by Chaos in the CBD for their essential mix. Gallegos now has an imprint of his own called ‘Room Service Recordings’, with his first release on the label providing a fitting conclusion to a Bside episode which explores the influences that brought him to where he is today.

Known for his dance music sets, but always unrestricted by genre, Gallegos is revered for his versatility and unpredictability. So, what a privilege to have excellent history of his broad musical influences, hip-hop, disco boogie, breaks and beats samples, Balearic, house and techno reminiscent of the Bristol rave scene, and an episode packed full of passion and nostalgia.

A driving jackin’ jazzy house cut in A minor at 123 BPM, A Bigger Ego Death Than Anyone Else fuses playful piano riffs, booming 808 kicks, and rolling bass with occasional slap bass punches and warped acidic guitar stabs. Subtle tribal percussion accents weave through the groove, adding texture without overpowering the rhythm.

Layered across the dancefloor energy are spoken-word snippets—dry, satirical, and ironic—riffing on transformation culture, utopian ideals, and the contradictions of excess. The result is equal parts club-ready jackin’ house and comedic social commentary, blending funky improvisation with explosive builds and drops.

This track sits somewhere between jazzy house, tech-funk, and surreal spoken performance, making it as much a playful satire as a dancefloor weapon.

Ahead of our party with Zaltan on the 21st of September he's put together a mix for our podcast series...

Don’t look for the latest Zaltan 12”, there is very little chance that it gets released anytime soon : Zaltan rather puts all his energy into his mixes and in running his label, Antinote. Wandering through recordshops and flea markets, looking for French rarities and yet to be discovered records, Quentin Vandewalle has gathered thousands of dancefloor-friendly tunes of all eras and from all over the world. Teaming with Raphael Top Secret for years as the cult Parisian duo Zaltan & Top Secret, he definitively knows how to keep a party going.

Zaltan has been djing for more than a decade and he makes a point of honour to deliver mixes as surprising and versatile as the label he runs. If you show yourself at a party where he plays you may find yourself falling into a maelstrom of Caribbean bangers, French proto-house tracks, dark electro fantasies and god knows what else he’ll take out of his bag.

Support comes from two very good friends of High Hoops, Annabel Fraser and Bitzer Maloney. Two NTS regulars and self confessed vinyl enthusiasts who have previously graced the stage with killer selections at High Hoops. 

Expect the unexpected with a night of twists and turns. Paris meets Manchester via our favourite Salford warehouse.

High Hoops 023 - Zaltan (Antinote)

We reached out to Amsterdam's Súya as we are big fans of his mixes, and asked if he would like to do one for Somewhere Down There. Thankfully, he agreed, and graced us with this wonderful mix.

When providing the mix, Súya said "When I think of Australia, beautiful nature and long drives come to mind. Reminding me of driving to parties when me and my friends were about 16 years old. We didn't have a driver's license, but we would drive for two hours to the other side of the Netherlands to go to a beach club in Bloemendaal. 

The first hour of the mix is inspired by driving to and being at a party with your friends. The second hour portrays a kind of 'late night driving' vibe while driving home, still being in the mood."
