A staple of Naarm/Melbourne’s electronic music scene, DAWS is a favourite for bringing local and international sounds together as a DJ, and a producer of refreshing and intoxicating dance music.

DAWS is acclaimed for outstanding sets that highlight her finest talents, signalling an intimacy with the dancefloor along with a rich knowledge for dance music. With a devotion for classic and modern house music in her warmer sets during the daytime, she also drives her own distinctive sound at night through weaving in percussive gems, club edits, and high-energy techno. 

In Australia, she’s played the most prolific queer and underground electronic music parties including Sydney Gay & Lesbian Mardi Gras, Beyond the Valley, Gaytimes, and Pitch Music and Arts. DAWS has had incredible sets as alongside international icons such as Octo Octa, Bambounou, Or:La, Carista, DJ Boring, and CC Disco. 2022 saw her introduction to Europe, gathering support from fans in clubs such as Corsica, Koko and Night Tales in London, as well as making new fans as an addition to ADE festival in Amsterdam. 


As a producer, DAWS has gained international attention for her original releases with support on NTS, Rinse FM, BBC Radio 1, Dublab, along with clips of her tracks being played across some of the hottest festival sets of the summer. Her debut EP was released in both physical and digital forms on UK-based house music mainstay Hot Haus Records in May 2023. The four track EP exudes euphoric feeling and energy to weave across dancefloors regardless of night or day, and is a glimpse of her impending impact and influence as a producer.

She also solidified her talent as a producer and DJ when she experimented with new sounds to produce her side project ADHD edits; a number of vibrant club ready edits and remixes of her favourite pop songs which all raised money for local charities. Since the release of her originals and edits, DAWS has continued to cultivate her sound and grow as an artist.

"Just be obsessed with music. Love it." The beloved London artist gives a masterclass on how to make it as a DJ and build a sustainable career.

Alice Moxom—better known by her stage name, Moxie—started out as a radio DJ on Kiss FM and NTS before playing parties and touring full-time. Now she has a label and party series that she curates called On Loop, which has invited artists like Matthew Herbert, Josey Rebelle, Leon Vynehall, K-Hand and Joy Orbison, in venues across Europe and the UK. The key to her success, she says, is that she hasn't rushed anything in her career. "Your sound can evolve and you can change," she says. "If you're thinking about this as a real career, the [opportunities] will always come around." 

In this episode of Resident Advisor's Exchange—the second in a three-part masterclass series called Future Proof, a collaboration with Rhythm Section—co-host Bradley Zero says that Moxie is "one of the most organized and graceful DJs on the circuit." She reveals how she has steadily built a career from the ground up, detailing how she's developed a synergistic relationship with her booking agent; selectively chosen gigs and mix opportunities; maneuvered stylistically without confusing promoters; and cultivated lasting relationships with a team of people she trusts. Berlin-based DJ and promoter Mark Gill spent his teenage years immersed in club culture. With early contributions, Mark continued his exploration with illegal raves and pushed the boundaries of the underground club scene. Now a resident of Refuge Worldwide and 20ft Radio, he's eager to broaden his communities and co-founded the Room 19, Station Karparty and Fandango collectives, arguably the most vibrant party community in Berlin at the moment.

This mix is the result of an amazing time at Fabric last weekend with Craig Richards at the helm. I've been on a bit of a nostalgic one ever since. Fabric opened when i was sixteen and has basically provided the soundtrack to my entire adult life ever since my very first tyrant back then. As a fairly lost teenager, like many, it gave me sanctuary and a lot of relief, which it continues to do.

Enough of being emosh. This selection is a completely unscripted dive into my records on Friday afternoon so it definitely has a live feel. There are a few bumps and scrapes along the way! It represents a balance of old and new, while taking a lot of inspiration and steer from memories in room one and three in particular.
