Emerging via London’s fertile UKG scene, East London-via-Derby DJ/producer Bailey Ibbs is one of a crop of artists leading the current garage and hardcore revival. Bailey’s sound draws from a nostalgic spectrum of UK bass sounds while adding in his own flavours, underpinned continuously by a rolling groove. As well as making his own music, he runs the party series and label Night Service, where he’s collaborated with the likes of Keep Hush and released his own rework of Jacques Greene’s ‘Afterglow‘. Spun recently by Avalon Emerson during her Radio 1 Residency, Bailey’s profile continues to grow. He kicked off the year with his ‘Gurl’ EP on Dansu Discs, slotting shuffly rhythms next to a distinctly early 2010s vibe. He’s kept active throughout the pandemic, too, releasing the three-track ‘Lockdown Trax‘ that aimed to raise funds for a charity close to his heart: Battens Disease. Welding together breakbeat, jungle and acid in a way that takes many twists and turns, Bailey’s Dummy Mix will make you miss the dancefloor like never before. “This mix is my soundtrack to the return of the club (hopefully in 2021!),” he says. “Over lockdown I’ve had a build-up of what I can only describe as a rave frustration. Since the pandemic begun I’ve been playing around with different sounds, focusing on more breakbeats and synthesisers, creating music influenced by the ’90s rave explosion in the UK with the hopes of driving my sound in the direction of larger and darker settings.”

This week it is our absolute pleasure to welcome two of our favourite DJs onto the series. As you all know, in the past we haven’t normally featured B2Bs on our guest mix series. However, when @ell_murphy and @ohmydais , two of the UK’s most exciting DJs got in touch we thought we could make an exception!!! 

There’s no doubt that Team Woibey and OBFC have reigned supreme this year. With mixes out on HÖR, Lobster Theremin, Foundation FM, Balamii and Rinse, there’s no doubt that Ell & Daisy’s sublime selections have been fully celebrated this year. 

In their B2B GAB guest mix, Ell & Daisy blend their way gracefully through a range of leftfield breakbeat soundscapes across the first 30 mins, with brief techno and ukg excursions. Following an outrageous donk transition, the mix’s second half sees Ell & Daisy push the tempo with jungle and hardcore selections that will leave u begging for IDs. 

What stunned us most about this mix was Ell & Daisy’s ability to capture a musical conversation while maintaining the mix’s seamless transitions. Slow Astro is a new mix series by Fracture which revisits the rich Astrophonica back catalogue and presents it in a new light. Starting with Volumes 1 & 2 featuring music from Sully, Client_03, Philip D Kick & DJ Earl.

"I have always been intrigued by playing audio back at different speeds. Be it speeding up breakbeats to make Jungle or slowing down pop music to make drawn out nostalgic atmospheres. Some of my first experiments with pitch were with my brother. We’d record ourselves onto cassette and use the hi speed dubbing feature to change the pitch of our voices. If you held the play button down half way it would cause the tape to play back at different speeds - mangling the audio.
Over the past year I became fascinated with playing on 7 inch records on 33. New rhythms, grooves and textures appear when you change the pitch of audio. It can totally alter the emotional quality of a piece of music you thought you knew so well - creating new artefacts with a familiar yet dreamlike quality. I started to wonder what the Astrophonica catalogue would sound like slowed down. So I made ‘Slow Astro’. Shout out DJ Screw…" - Fracture
