Sjunne Ferger's Exit - Night Rituale (STW Premiere)

Patrick Lotilla aka DJ Patrick understands that making bodies move isn't all physics. Sometimes, it takes a bit of poetry. Based out of Oakland, DJ Patrick has been stringing together stories by way of his dj sets. It's a style he picked up DJ'ing on KALX 90.7FM, a humble 50 year+ college radio station serving the diverse Berkeley community. KALX developed an eclecticism that's become a signature to DJ Patrick's sound, so while he's no longer piecing together Gamelan, Jungle, and Jazz, he keeps things interesting on the dance floor with his wide taste in dance music. These days, DJ Patrick can be heard peddling a sound that's warm and inviting. It's a sound he grew into during his time with BROUHAHA, a dj collective he co-founded back in 2013 and gave him the opportunity to share the stage with Todd Edwards, Awesome Tapes from Africa, and DJ Fett Burger to name a few. Such acts inspired DJ Patrick to go searching for music energized with humor and vitality, a je ne sais quoi with a four-on-the-floor beat. So, whether it's Zanzibar-inspired House or City Pop, Krautrock edits or Sheffield Bleep, all are likely to find it's way into the stanzas of a DJ Patrick set.

Chinese born RUI HO (@ruiho)has been based in Berlin for the last four years, but even though she's built a reputation as an eclectic DJ, she doesn't make the formulaic four-to-the-floor techno you might expect. Rui's first release was in 2016 on Chinese label Genome 6.66Mbp and from the outset her sound was something totally unique. She referenced Chinese melodies, fusing them with energetic European club music, manifesting a truly original take.

"For Every Child" es una de las piezas más emotivas que he creado hasta ahora.

A través del piano, quise reflejar el viaje emocional que vive un niño que crece en un entorno marcado por el abuso doméstico: desde el miedo y la confusión, hasta la esperanza, la luz y el amor.

Cada nota está pensada para dar voz a lo que tantas veces no se dice con palabras. Para mí, esta pieza es un abrazo sonoro que acompaña, que comprende y que transmite ese mensaje tan necesario: “Te veo. Te entiendo. Eres importante. Eres amado.”

La historia detrás de esta música:

No conocía Operation Encompass hasta que un día recibí un mensaje suyo que me conmovió profundamente. Me explicaron quiénes eran y me preguntaron si me gustaría componer una pieza que representara su labor y todo lo que hacen por los niños que viven situaciones de violencia en el hogar.

Operation Encompass es una organización con sede en Inglaterra. Su misión es asegurar que, cuando un niño ha estado expuesto a un episodio de violencia doméstica, su escuela lo sepa antes de que empiece el siguiente día lectivo. Así, los profesores pueden ofrecerle el apoyo emocional que necesita de forma inmediata, con empatía y cuidado.

Acepté encantado. Crear esta música fue, para mí, una forma de rendir homenaje a esos niños y al trabajo silencioso pero transformador de quienes los protegen y los acompañan.

Así nació "For Every Child". Una música compuesta con el alma, para recordar que cada niño tiene derecho a sentirse seguro, comprendido y amado.

El lema de Operation Encompass lo resume todo:
"Every child has the right to be nurtured, supported and to feel safe."
“Todo niño tiene derecho a ser cuidado, apoyado y a sentirse seguro.”
