For the 18th edition of our mix series we are joined by a revered breakthrough of recent years, @ciel_dj.

A key figure on and off the dancefloor, Toronto-based Ciel has been an ever growing force on the electronic scene. Spearheading the female focused Work In Progress collective and co-founding the touted Parallel Minds imprint, she has helped bring diversity, safety and representation into the clubs whilst also working with advocacy groups to change the city’s laws to be more favourable towards creative ventures. Pushing a distinctive sound that is characterised by a club-focused blend of deep and energetic contrasts, she showcases why she is one to watch with a standout mix for the Junction 2 series.

Here is what Ciel had to say about the mix:

“This mix was inspired by 1) clubs reopening 2) my love of cheesy tech house wafters and 3) a desire to present the most authentic version of myself as a DJ. I think most Djs have very complicated feelings about making mixes, the process of premeditating a mix at home away from an audience and the insatiable drive for perfection can both be very anxiety-inducing. So I chose to do as little planning as possible, seeking instead a truly spontaneous recording experience with zero plan and nothing more than 2 USBs full of bangers. The result is a high energy 90-minute trip into trancey house, techy rollers, dub techno, and minimal-UKG tools. Play this on your way back to the club.”

For our next instalment we have a very special mix retrieved from the darkest corner of underground acid house, its your favourite producers' favourite producer, DAWL

An early raver from the late 80s, DAWL became involved in the jungle and rave scene from the very start. Turning away from years of DJing, he began his journey in production taking the 90s rave nostalgia and influences from anthems of that era, flippin them into reinvented sounds adored by DJs of today's scene.

Being featured on big labels such as Clut, Craigie Knowes, Klasse Wrecks, Haws and many more, the bleep and breakbeat aficionado consistently plugs out stunners of the highest acclaim. DAWL, also, owner of the label Tone Dropout has really paved the way for nostalgia-driven, intergalactic-transcending beats riddled with 808s and 303s.

UK born and bred, one of our finest in the acid scene, get ready for this one, it's gonna rattle your ear drums (we apologise to your neighbours in advance)

Ringing in the next edition of the FAST_CAST mix series is London-via-NYC DJ @john_x. Currently based in East London, John has spent over a decade in both New York and London scenes, supporting artist communities, DJing and throwing grassroots parties. Some words from John about his mix:

“I tend to favor a sound that is equal parts driving, but also emotive and melodic, in nature. In this instance, I pulled together a collection of tracks that I feel have a certain overarching cinematic quality about them, despite stylistic or genre differences.”

With two hours of stellar selections that pack a serious punch, this mix demonstrates Taro's ability to drive the sound of rave into the future, regenerating the genres that define it while remaining true to its roots. 

Following a string of releases in 2020 for Highball, YAM’s offshoot Body Action Music, a return to High Class Filter and Scuffed Recordings, Taro also runs his own label NC4K with Lo-Max out of Japan, focussing mainly on house and jungle. 

He's been a busy guy and we're told there's plenty more to come in 2021.
