Dekmantel Selectors 2021 was a much needed musical reunion. After the preceding period of stillness, the catharsis and pure joy of finally being together again has been overwhelming. In the words of Simo Cell: "It's 7pm, and I have 5 missed calls on my phone: 'We're expecting massive rain tonight and we will have to close your stage earlier, is it okay for you to play earlier?' No time to stress and to think about it. I left my place and started my set straight away. From a few people to a packed dancefloor, I built up slowly from 90bpm to 160bpm (you know the drill). Pretty happy about the progression of the set and the rise in intensity. In the end, the crowd turned into a mosh pit on XXXtentacion and I had the best time behind the decks. It's good when things sometimes happen spontaneously like that. And it didn't rain after all."

It is an inimitable style that has led them to play for global institutions including RA, Bossa Nova, NTS, and Boiler Room, and support legendary artists including Helena Hauff, DJ Sprinkles, and u-Ziq. 

""This mix is a live recording from a show at Sideway, a gorgeous little club situated on Ngunnawal/Ngambri Country. I played the middle slot between two DJs with a very different style to me, and each other. I wanted to bridge the gap between the two by matching the energy of the opening DJ then trying to disorient the crowd through a lot of tempo and groove switchups, so that when the closer began the 120ish stuff they planned to play would feel like a relief and draw the crowd together.

I had a pretty challenging time playing -  I've been very used to local crowds that I know and trust to stick with me through my constant shifts in direction. I had a bonkers week in the lead-up and only had about 30 minutes to prep in the club. But I was surprised how happy I was with the recording on listening back, and think it gives a fairly accurate slice of what I tend to play out lately in a functional, club, party context."

There's no doubt Porto-based Brasilian Albin is a lover of drums. As a DJ he flirts with rhythm whether he's playing downtempo cuts, bass weight or more rave-inspired breaks and UKG. 

This passion is translated through his label too. Since 2018 he's been helming Yellow Island Records with the help of label family LA-based producer Etari and fellow Porto-based Brasilian Radino.

There's a distinct UK influence to the output, you'll hear breakbeat, garage, jungle, IDM and braindance sounds coming from producers like Kessler, Boulderhead, XTMR and more, plus there's plenty of compilations to sink your teeth into.

The UK connection is also kept alive through the label's residency on South East London's Balamii Radio which sees him invite label mates and like-minded DJs to take over the controls each month.

Just like Albin asserts, his mix for us is fluid and energetic - and there's absolutely no messing about, he gets straight into it from the jump. The drums take centre stage throughout, flipping between rolling and skippy patterns that sit over dub-wise atmospheres and tittering percussion - whether you're on your morning run or making a beeline for the dance floor, this will keep those energy levels up.

The man, the myth, the legend ... back in the 80s Jesse Rae, along with Roger Troutman and Bernie Worrell, was part of the P-Funk movement that was hugely influential to Detroit’s early electronic experiments. Lesser known is that the enigmatic Scot-funk warrior later produced underground electronic tracks in the 90s.

The inaugural release on Glasgow label Southside Shufflers presents two of Jesse’s Shufflers on vinyl for the first time on the Global 95 EP- a sampler from his pioneering 1995 album ‘Compression’. Ever the innovator, Jesse recorded the album collaboratively using live ISDN technology spanning three continents, with the resultant tracks fusing African, US electro-funk and old Scots influences. 23 years later, Jesse’s under the radar Shufflers sound more relevant than ever.
