1) Tell us a bit about yourself and your record collection.
Hello, my name's Ole. Originally from the northwestern coast of Germany i moved to Hamburg in 1998. I got into records and djing very quickly. Originally from the guitar oriented more punk/metal/grunge range i heavily started listening and buying drum'n'bass, broken and down beats back in the days. From this the progression took me into soul, funk, jazz, hiphop and reggae. After a few years as bedroom dj i took the step and got some gigs as part of bigger party line-ups. Further onward i became resident of some bars around Hamburgs Reeperbahn and stated as booker for the Pony Bar around 2003. This gave me the chance to dj a lot myself. I got in contact with many other dj's and artists at the time and with a few we started recurring events like the burnin' ballroom, playing mostly funk, soul, hiphop, reggae and mashup stuff. For about the last ten years i found my partner in crime in Holger aka drop-out. We share  a lot of taste and appetite for funky music and we sort of look alike ;-) So it possibly maybe was logical, we turned out to name ourselves the Funk Bear Brothers. With long residencies at Yoko Mono Bar and BernsteinBar we also had the chance to get into the Jazz Cafe / Mojo Club, where we had much fun until the crisis came up. Not to forget we also do boat tours with Bendix aka DJ HeavyK & Doc Schlucki (the Disco Dudes), where we play AOR, BoogieFunk, ModernSoul, Disco and other sunbeams mostly. The trip is called "Welcome On Soul Board" and will hopefully progress when we all can enjoy the nightlife again.

2) 45/7 is all about celebrating the 7". Can you tell us a bit about what you love about the format.
First of all this term "celebration" is sort of ambivalent to me. It's about the music in the first place. So the format comes after this. But i really love to find songs on 7"s for a few reasons. The pragmatic points are weight and size. If you carry fifty 12" Drum'n'Bass maxis to the venue it's heavy like the set you may play with them. I love Albums too, but i have a lot LP's which don't turn me on as a whole. So getting the essential tunes on 7" is a thrill to me too. Though I must admit, i'm a lazy hunter. With 7"s i got confronted with paying attention to the filpside. It happened quite often, that i had my favorite tune but forgot about listening to the b-side. Experiencing this i tried to get better. And there are so many good tunes hidden on the dark side of the hits. 
A main thing that keeps me buying small records even though they are pricey compared to LPs is the fact that there are so many labels that drop good stuff on this format. Last but not least as visual being i like the variety of designs of labels, sleeves, boxsets and these things. When it comes to filling the bags for parties, 7"s make it possible to bring a wide span of styles to the booth. So you have a great flexibility. But you always forget one good tune at home. 

3) An hour of vinyl goodness... can you talk us through your selection for your 45/7 mix?
At first i was unsure, what to put on the turntables. But the strange times we are living in and my latest additions together made it happen that i choose to stay slow and sweet on this soulful journey. All the songs are about love, regrett, confession and straighten it out. But above that they are about keeping up your head and not loosing hope. 

4) Where can people catch you / listen to your music? 
Right now with the clubs and bars closed down it's quite simple. If you check linktr.ee/svolanski you get linked to my mixcloud, twitch, insta and so on. I'm really looking forward to pack my bags again for DJ-Nights at the Jazz Cafe (Mojo Club HH) and Frau Hedi, a harbour ship, which makes 3-4 hour trips with DJs. Together with my Funk Bear Brother Holger and the two Disco Dudes Bendix (Delicious Bisquits HH) and Doc Schlucki i had a lot of funk there. Hopefully we can set sails in the future again.

The Australian-based Jamie Porteous is releasing his debut album on Music For Dreams ‘Tropical Mountain Man’.

The album came to life in the middle of the corona pandemic. Whilst Australia was in lockdown Jamie got a job as an “essential” worker, delivering coffee up the coast of Queensland. This would turn out to be an adventurous road trip where Jamie would stop at all his favourite haunts.

In 2018 Jamie moved from Ibiza after having lived there for 10 years. The road trip would have Jamie and his Ibiza dog Teela drive the coffee van far North from their home on the subtropical Gold Coast.
After passing Capricorn the waves stop, the reef starts and the full tropical ecosystems kick in. The mountains become filled with palm trees and the bounty beaches with coconuts. Also, the animals become stranger and more colourful. There’re wild crocodiles, cassowaries, pythons, and beautiful Ulysses butterflies.

At Jamies favourite Aussie spot with a Daintree tea plantation surrounding him the phrase ‘Tropical Mountain Man’ came to his mind. Jamie says “accompanied by a friend we would sing this hilarious song ‘Tropical Mountain Man’ which sounded like the opening of a children's cartoon. Kind of a Spongebob vibe.” This can be heard at the end of the song ‘Tropical Mountain Man’.

“There's nothing quite like being somewhere as beautiful as the rainforest, especially when the whole world has shut down... It truly felt like being in heaven at times and I will never forget this unique experience. As soon as I got home, I started producing the songs inspired by these 2 months on the road.” – Jamie
