For our 50th edition and almost a year since the inception of this mix series we are ecstatic to have one of the undisputed legends of the house and techno scene to celebrate this milestone: @djnickwarren.

You can tell when Nick Warren is on the decks. The music emanating from the DJ booth is that perfect club mix of driving percussion and soaring musicality, bursting out of the speakers, soaking everyone in melody, drenching them in sound.

To this day, Warren remains at the forefront of club culture: he packs clubs and arenas worldwide from London to Buenos Aires to Burning Man, transfixing dancefloors with his distinctively forward blend of credible progressive sounds, deeper tunes, atmospheric layers and any other grooves Warren deems appropriate for his turntable.

Nick Warren became one of the first so-called "superstar DJs" in the mid-to-late '90s, holding down a high-profile residency at Cream in England, touring around the world, and appearing on several DJ mix albums before they became commonplace. Though he spun an eclectic array of dance styles in the late '80s and early '90s, he eventually championed the late-'90s trance sound of labels like Hooj Choons and joined the ranks of other superstar DJs like Paul Oakenfold, Sasha, and Tall Paul.

Warren moved to Bristol in the 1980s after having just turned 20. By the early '90s, he was one of the city's top DJs, spinning upstairs at Vision, one of the city's first super-clubs. At the time, Warren spun everything from dub and hip-hop to house, which became his preferred style.

When fellow Bristol artists Massive Attack left to tour America in the wake of their early success, they invited Warren to accompany them on tour as their official DJ, a testament to his turntable skills as well as his reputation at the time. Eventually, Warren began a massively successful stint as the resident DJ at Cream in Liverpool.

The years that followed saw Nick Warren enjoy a whirlwind of success. Through a combination of providing acclaimed mixes for Mixmag, DMC, and the hugely successful Global Underground series, and releasing a string of club-smashing solo singles, Warren found himself catapulted into the electronic and house big leagues; and, by continuing to release acclaimed albums, singles, and remixes with his Way Out West partner-in-crime, Jody Wisternoff, and remixing tracks for the likes of Lana Del Rey, he firmly established himself as a truly multi-faceted producer of top-quality dance music.

Having already graced the decks at every self-respecting super-club on the planet and made his name as a superstar DJ, the late Noughties saw Warren turn his hand to the business side of the music industry. Now, as the A&R of Bristol-based Hope Recordings, he spends his time seeking to hone and promote the next generation of club-smashing DJ and production talent; and, through the expansion of his label The Soundgarden into a globe-straddling international events and entertainment brand, set in stone his already firmly-established reputation as a giant of electronic, techno, and house music.

If you are a dedicated electronic music fan, there really is no need to give you too much of an introduction into the world of 16 Bit Lolitas. For those that are uninitiated, welcome to a whole new world. 

The Dutch duo of Ariaan Olieroock and Peter Kriek have been around since the early 00's, releasing the sort of productions which always reserved space in many revered DJ bags. They received worldwide recognition with tracks like ‘Murder Weapon’, ‘Nobody Seems To Care’, ‘Sedna’ and remixes for the likes of Sander Kleinenberg and Armin van Buuren.

Where many early-00's prog producers faded away, 16BL endured its heyday to stay as relevant today as they were a decade ago. Lately, the 16 Bit Lolitas have been focusing some of that energy into their side project, Cubicolor; a project with Tim Digby-Bell which of late has been gaining some serious momentum, even seeing them receive some attention outside of the club scene (they 'are currently working hard on the new Cubicolor album').

For their Balance excursion the Dutch boys have kept to form with a beautifully crafted selection of tracks and remixes from artists like Patrice Baumel, Trikk, Audiofly, Adriatique and more. And needless to say, 16BL have delivered a masterful mix.

Following on from the last “Live in Tokyo” compilation, John Digweed's next album acts as a celebration but also a landmark release. Output in Brooklyn has been one of the shining lights in clubland with its forward thinking policies and attention to detail with mind blowing sound and lighting. Having been a regular behind the decks since it opened and having released a “Live in Brooklyn” album over 2 years ago you could say I have a real love for this space. When it was announced that the club was closing and I would be playing the very last set there I had so many mixed emotions from sadness to joy and an overwhelming pressure to deliver a party that a club of that stature deserves. I really put my heart and soul into that party drawing from my favourite tracks over the years.

The set seemed to fly by and there was just a constant sea of smiling faces from the dance floor all night long as the crowd literally savoured every record on that crystal clear sound system.  After listening back to the set I knew this album had to come out and not just be another mix online. It deserved to be part of peoples music collection and a memento for years to come. We have managed to licence 6 cd’s worth of music from the night.  I hope you can immerse yourself in one of my favourite sets in NY for years.

It's a new year for Music Treasures Series and we are still continuing very strong, this time we have Anthony Pappa, name that need no introduction in the underground scene. He is considered as 
one of the pioneers and still very influential to this date. Be ready for a special 3h mix which will blow your mind, just listen and enjoy.

Anthony is an Australian DJ and electronic music producer from Melbourne.
Pappa was born in Italy but was raised in Melbourne, Australia where he attended Marcellin College. At the age of four he got his first drum which inspired him to become a producer later in life.

Pappa started DJ career at the age of 13. He won Australia's DMC DJ championship at the age of 15, and by the age of 21 was playing for most prolific clubs. After meeting Sasha and John Digweed during an Australian tour, he decided to move to Great Britain to further pursue a DJ career.

He appeared on the List of DJ Magazine's Top 100 DJs each year between 1997 and 2003. Pappa played at the I Love Techno music festival in France. In 2008, he played at the SAMC (South American Music Conference). In 2000, he was on the cover of DJ Mag.

He has released mix compilations on labels including Platipus Records, System Recordings, EQ's Balance, and most notably on Boxed's Renaissance, Global Underground and NuBreed series. He also did mixes for the Nina Kraviz’s song "I’m Gonna Get You", before founding his own music label Red Light District in 2008.

In 1998, Pappa teamed up with Alan Bremner under the name Freefall to produce the one off trance classic "Skydive", featuring Jan Johnston on vocals. The song has since been remixed more than ten times. He has also remixed tracks for Chicane including a bootleg of Offshore that was officially released and charted at #17 in the UK.

During the 2004 tour, Pappa performed at Womb nightclub in Tokyo, Japan and then performed at Zouk in Kuala Lampur. He also performed at the various clubs in Beijing, Taipei, Hong Kong and Singapore.

In 2018 he teamed up with Gab Oliver of Narcotik, as well as working on a new single with Quivver.

In 2019, Pappa performed at the Circus Paradise Arts and Music Festival and on 30 March of the same year, he played at LaDiDa.

Pappa isn’t a stranger to new ventures; as well as producing mix CDs for Renaissance and Global Underground, throughout his career he’s played the role of producer, done his own studio tracks, and of course performed live

Incredibly in-demand, whether he’s producer, DJ or head of a record label. After seeing Pappa work his way around a studio as well as behind the decks, DJ Pete Gooding described him as “the best DJ, technically, I ever saw”, and his technical skills have blown critics and fans away. Pappa says that his ability for classical drumming has helped his renowned mixing skills.
