This set was first performed on January 1st 2024 in San Francisco at the Breakfast of Champions block party on the Space Cowboys main stage.

A RE:CONSTRUCTED set is a *long* way removed from a standard DJ set. It's a live/hybrid set.

Simon takes hundreds of tracks from his huge library, painstakingly deconstructs them (using Ai if needed to separate elements from the original tracks), and then pieces everything back together to create a hugely emotive and immersive musical story.

He uses Ableton Live and multiple controllers to trigger up to 16 individual channels of audio at any one time during the performance, and also performs live keyboard overdubs. The end result is a hugely addictive, compulsive and compelling blend of music that's often new, often familiar but always utterly unique.

It’s not surprising to hear Richie Blacker share his appreciation for fellow Irishmen and old-school revivalists Bicep. Just as they draw from scene originators like Orbital, Richie imbues his productions with the spirit of mid-90s open-field raves and Ibiza-flavored piano house.

This sound resonates with notable DJs like Sasha and Skream, who have both signed him to their labels, Last Night On Earth and Of Unsound Mind. With his Mess Express label and regular radio plays on Radio 1 and other stations across Europe, he shows no signs of slowing down.

With a sound rooted in darker, rebellious tones, he fully embodied the underground at a time when the term still held weight.

One of my favorite quotes is ‘Words can only affect you to the degree in which you think they are true.’ Now, recently since I've been DJing more, I've been getting some messages saying you're not a real DJ or you're only getting these gigs because you have a lot of followers or you're the problem, you're what's wrong with the scene. And this used to affect me, but it absolutely does not affect me anymore because I know I am putting in the work. I am listening to every single Beatport release. I'm listening to every single promo that comes my way. I'm reaching out to my favorite up and coming producers to get my hands on unreleased music that nobody else has heard yet. When you put in the work, you stop worrying about the opinions of others and you focus more on your own progression. Sander Kleinenberg once told me that a great DJ listens to four thousand tracks and picks the best twelve he think the dancefloor will enjoy most. And that's all I'm focused on. I'm putting in the work. I know you guys are putting in the work too, and because of that, I think this week's mix is my best mix yet. And I really hope that you all enjoy it. The album dives into the history and legacy of slavery — from capture and the Middle Passage to bondage, punishment, escape, and ultimate triumph.

Across 13 tracks, Obá Mystik blends Afro House, Delta Blues, Gospel House, and Tribal House into a sonic story of pain, survival, and celebration. Featured guest Elijah “Graveyard” Moore brings a cracked Delta blues voice to the story, while the River Jordan Choir raises the finale into a triumphant gospel explosion.
