‘Mathilda’, Margee’s first work on Balearic Ensemble, wears funk and acid jazz colours against a strong balearic backdrop. Woozy pads, sultry vocal snippets, soaring arpeggios over a tightly constructed groove. Takes us to frivolity on the Med, circa 1978. To our great fortune, we also get the Vibra in Limbo mix, a more restrained take on the original that sets foot down the stone path to the club and veers off into vibraphonic eccentricity.
