In an instant, you’re surrounded by layers of African rhythm guitar, sharp brass and woodwind with the most infectious vocal chants. This really is Afro-Funk at its finest. Slightly Transformed bring us a five-tracker from Paul Older, an Italian producer whose work has also appeared on Hot Digits, Masterworks, Furious Mandrill, Tropical Disco and other labels. The man from Padova's dug admirably deep, so while all five tracks are re-edits we won't concern ourselves too much as regards source material: suffice to say that if your floor moves to original 70s-style disco (as opposed to its contemporary, more electronic variants) then any of the five tracks here will do the job nicely, with special mention going to 'Hot Deb' - AKA Debbie Jacobs' 1979 nugget 'Hot Hot' - which has pyeow-pyeow-pyeow! stabs to die for.

Discoholics Anonymous Recordings as a relatively new label are currently making serious ground in the disco house scene. Their 12th release is all set to drop this Friday 19th February and hosts the brilliantly talented French producer Ferdinand Debeaufort. This is the opener and title track "Groovin' In All Directions" which is a compact piece of nostalgic / vintage boogie. A solid underbelly of drive and rhythm allows the marvellous keys, strings and vocals to take their place in style on the second floor. Perfect tempo to kickstart any mix set.
