“Crystal Radio” is 4 track album released in 2022.  The central thread related to how time and life flow in an unpredictable pattern, but within boundaries. Lines are created based on decisions we make, big or small.  How different would someone’s life change based on these decisions?  Even say, stopping or not stopping to have a drink at a water fountain, decades previously. Everything after would have been jostled around, but with what impact?  

Two previous tracks have used this theme. ‘Silica Daughter’ appears on the 2021 project “Cloktacs III” and uses a sample where the question is asked, “You won’t fail me will you?”.  Later in 2021, samples from the 90-year-old movie ‘Back Street’ were repurposed to create a radio play called ‘Back Lane’ which will be aired as part of the 2022 Radiophrenia event in Scotland. The storyline of the movie follows a chain of events set in motion by a simple decision that alters the lives of the characters completely, forever, and ends in a classic, ‘what if’…

this track is a remix (of sorts) of elements from what will be track 11

i'm trying to incorporate a little guitar in all my borges tracks, and from 2m40s onwards you can just about hear me scraping and cutting my acoustic guitar strings with wire cutters.

there are many layers burying and undermining each other in this mix, and i'm pleased with how this soundscape evolved quickly and naturally :::: listening back, it "sounds like my self" :::: sometimes, there is something very calming about hearing your own interiority made exterior, and how strange that that can happen without words.

from a sequence of fourteen tracks based on borges' short story "the writing of the god", in which a prisoner becomes obsessed with the idea that fourteen sacred words are encoded in the fur of an animal (jaguar - tigre).

i explore the idea of encoded meanings by variously deploying 7/8 time signatures, percussion playing the track titles in morse code, granulated voices, duration (14 x 14 = 196 = 3m16s), resampling, feedback, and other less immediate means...
