A vivid sonic palette glows brightly from a cathedral of sound created by Fernando Olaya. A subterranean bassline from the depths of the Zapiqura salt mines radiates in warm tones. An echo to a French electronic icon reverberates through "Ethnicolor", sparkling arpeggios ripple outwards in gloriously emotive patterns and sumptuous underlying melody, bound together with driving rhythm and syncopated percussion. A charismatic array of sounds appears "Face to Face" communicating a powerful symbiotic relationship between rhythm and melody. A collage of counterpoint motifs provides aural intrigue and a central phrase pierces with powerful intent.

Matching a rapid upward trajectory to the soaring glass-fronted skyscrapers of Tim Penner's Toronto home, glittering shards of sound ripple in sunlit patterns through a new "Ethnicolor". Subtle variation reflects a central melodic framework as trademark groove and attention to detail reveal poise and power in perfect harmony. A Colombian duo reprises their partnership as Dabeat and Juan Pablo Torrez come "Face to Face" once more. A symphony of sounds collides across a study in perfect communication as the effect of mutual cooperation reveals sumptuous bassline groove and subtle melodic cues.

The latest release from Tash's Movement Recordings welcomes Ruben Karapetyan to the label or his debut single. Born in Armenia and now based in California, Ruben has a long history in electronic music. Best known for his DJ Darky alias, the Hollywood resident shared the stage with famous artists like Sasha and Digweed, Sven Vath and Orbital as part of lineups at legendary events such as Electric Daisy Carnival (EDC) , Together as One (biggest NY party in America ), AgeHa in Tokyo Japan, VNVNC Concert Hall in St. Petersburg and Pravda in Moscow, Russia. Operating under a variety of production monikers, Ruben has remixed The Cure's 'Forest', while his original productions were routinely championed by the underground's top tastemakers. Now following a ten-year hiatus Ruben returns to electronic music via Movement Recordings with 'Gignesthai', alongside remixes from Stan Kolev and Emi Galvin.

Beginning with the Original Mix, Ruben draws on the peak time dynamics which shaped the early part of his career. It's tough, driving groove commands a big presence, adorned with detailed percussion, rolling rhythms and soulful overlays. Cross cultural motifs advance the narrative across the first act, before coming to full fruition during the main break. Haunting and emotive in equal measure, the centerpiece melts down to a gentle purr, before muted beats rise towards a classy drop and chugging finale.

The first interpretation of 'Gignesthai' is provided by Stan Kolev who returns to the label for his second appearance. The Bulgarian artist made his Movement Recordings debut in June of 2018 with a remix of 'The Swarm' by Marc DePulse. A staple in Beatport's progressive house charts, Stan is one of the most prolific and consistent artists in the genre's history. Now in a year highlighted by releases for Sudbeat Music, UV and his own Outta Limits imprint, Stan returns to Movement with a huge rendition of 'Gignesthai'. Opting for a fuller, more robust groove, the Bulgarian artist focuses on a strong rhythmic narrative, resulting in a great complement to the original. Commanding yet mysterious, it's reprocessed motifs and growling synth swells make for an intense first act, before the main break shifts the narrative into emotive territory. Poignant chord changes billow below as a rush of noise and classy modulation cues a powerful drop.

Rounding out the release and providing the second and final interpretation of 'Gignesthai' is label artist Emi Galvan. Now making his sixth appearance on the Greek imprint, the Argentinean producer also lays claim to releases on Hernan Cattaneo's Sudbeat Music and Nick Warren's The Soundgarden. Known for being selective in his projects, Emi now returns to Movement for just his third remix of the year. A DJ friendly beginning of spongy kicks and effervescent percussion leads to the introduction of buoyant basslines and rhythmic pulses. A perfect balance of warmth and drive provides the foundation for haunting motifs, teased across the first act as layers of percussion push the energy higher. Astral aesthetics highlight the main break, both quirky and rhythmic they elevate mood, eventually resetting the groove for a pulsating drop and mystical finale. An inspired remix from Emi which caps off a welcome return to electronic music for Ruben Karapetyan, an artist you are certainly going to be hearing much more from in the future.

An artist who believes in "carefully crafted and visualised music" to "express a story", Ivars Tillicks has been at the vanguard of the progressive house scene for well over five years with his Subconscious Tales soubriquet. Originally making his EP debut on the Suffused Music imprint in 2014, the Latvian artist has gone on to release regularly on the imprint. With almost a double century of production credits to his name, Subconscious Tales has seen his music signed to a plethora of high-profile imprints that include Balkan Connection, Lowbit and John 00 Fleming's JOOF.

A regular on Proton's labels, a debut for Particles saw the three-track "Twisted" EP released in June 2017, while a debut original EP for Proton Music saw the twin-track "Magnectares" EP arrive some two years later in July 2019. Remixes saw James Monro and Kasper Koman extend the range of the original EP while Subconscious Tales himself has been responsible for standout remixes of David Calo in late 2017 and Soulwerk's "Funchal" in mid-2020.

Now returning, "Dharma" is a high-energy offering that bristles with dynamic range as a fast-paced percussive top line and driving beat provide the perfect framework for muted and filtered chords to juxtapose themselves delicately against the rhythmic backdrop. Building in energy, a seismic sub-bassline rumbles across proceedings while a chorus of effects adds depth. A glorious array of melodic phrases reveal themselves at the mid-point before rhythmic dynamism hits its stride once more in the third movement combined with counterpoint melodic flow.

"The Saviour" continues the deep bassline of its predecessor, this time adding a bouncing groove that syncopates perfectly with hi-hat percussion and heavy kick. A beautifully filtered arpeggio arrives over the sonic horizon with ease, emerging with hypnotic grace before textured pads and soft vocal breaths add counterpoint progression at the breakdown. The grooved bassline so prominent in the first half once again makes its presence felt as it drops into the second half, to create a headshaking, dancefloor track.

The title track continues the deep bassline and melodic narrative of its partner tracks as a rasping, modulated low-end paves the way for another cadenced bass groove. Intricate motifs sit atop in perfect harmony as the track evolves elegantly over its near nine-minute duration. An earworm theme provides the central melodic focus as the track moves into its breakdown, complemented by a beautiful sonic arrangement full of light and delicate touch. Once again bassline dominance provides the foundation of the third movement as "Soulreaper" showcases grace, skill and craft.
