PREMIERE: Kiman - Elyps (Original Mix) [Wood Limited]

Hoito label-head Sascha Braemer makes a welcome return to Marc Romboy’s Systematic this July with the Who Died And Made You King EP. The three-track release includes a remix by former Agents Of Time member, Fedele.

The title track opens proceedings, pairing emotive key changes against Dom Fricot’s poignant vocal tones. It’s a haunting number that leaves us in a state of starry-eyed reflection before Fedele’s Revenge Mix takes on a harder edge. A weighty bassline contrasts Dom’s soothing lyrical contributions, as hard-hitting percussion marches on in the background. Mars 96 completes the EP, featuring ethereal synth pulses, warming pads and whispering hats throughout.

Sascha Braemer has become a familiar figure in the global house scene in a career that spans decades. As label-head of Hoito, the German-native native has welcomed the likes of BOg, Aaaron and Echonomist in recent times. 2021 looks set to be a highlight year for the Systematic-regular, with an array of releases already soon to land on Anjunadeep and Deutsche Grammophon to name a few.

Vor Kurzem geschah mir etwas Merkwürdiges. Ich ging spazieren und aus der Dunkelheit trat eine Gestalt. Nicht Mensch, nicht Tier, nicht einmal irdisch. Eher ein Loch in der Welt, ich glaube, dass sich in diesem Moment zwei Dimensionen kreuzten und die Gestalt und ich so aufeinandertrafen. Das Wesen hatte ein komisches Gesicht und vor allem eins: ein großes Geweih, Schaufeln gar. Um den Hals hing ein USB-Stick von Pioneer. Ein DJ also, glasklar. Wir konnten uns nicht verständigen, mir hatte es die Sprache verschlagen und die Entität kommunizierte nicht mit Lauten, zumindest kam es mir nicht so vor, sondern eher mit etwas Anderem, etwas, das mein Verstand zu begreifen nicht in der Lage war. Dennoch wurde mir klar: ich soll den USB-Stick nehmen und die darauf befindliche Datei verbreiten. Also: hier ist sie. Ein Stück aus einer anderen Dimension von einem nicht fassbaren Wesen. Oder ein verzerrtes Spiegelbild meiner Selbst. Was weiß ich schon.
